Most Memorable Adelaide Experience: Meeting Caroline O’Connor in the Festival Theatre foyer
Born and raised in Adelaide, Neve fell in love with theatre, cabaret and live music in Adelaide.
She’s also extremely lucky to study a Bachelor of Musical Theatre in Adelaide with the Elder Conservatorium.
Her mantra is plucked straight from Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ where he says: “Anything you do, let it come from you. Then it will be new. Give us more to see.” She think this is perfect advice for all artists and creative people. Keep making art!
Speaking of which, in her opinion, when it comes to making weird and wonderful art, no one does it better than the artists at the Adelaide Fringe. Each year I go with her friends, family (or solo!) and jump tent to tent, seeing as many shows as possible. These artists are so unbelievably talented, creative, insightful, and silly, and seeing their work each year inspires me all over again.
Adelaide is simply bursting with creative talent. Her best advice for people wanting to explore the arts and entertainment in Adelaide is… just do it! Trust Neve, it’s everywhere.
Open your eyes a little more and you’ll see a flyer for the band about to play at your local pub this Saturday. Or see what shows performing at the community theatre near you. Just grab a friend and go see it! The shows you see every day don’t have to be professional touring productions or a pop star from the US.
The talent and the beauty is right here in Adelaide.
That’s why she loves it.
Who or what inspires you most in life?
Liza Minnelli forever and ever. But more importantly my friends that I perform and study with endlessly inspire me and push me to be better.
What’s a surprising or fun fact about you that not many people know?
I did circus classes as a child and think that says a lot about me
What’s your ideal way to spend a weekend in Adelaide?
Trot down rundle mall with friends that ends in Dymocks and a coffee in my hand. Then a musical at night with a wine in my hand!
What’s a favourite book, movie, or song that resonates with you?
The Perks of Being a Wallflower book AND movie. Tears every time. I can only dream to be involved in a project that helps others the way that story helps me.
What inspired your passion for arts and entertainment in Adelaide?
When I was little my nana took me to see a community production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ at the Arts Theatre. It was the first musical I ever saw and I fell in love with musical theatre. I knew in that moment that I would stop at nothing to get up on that stage.
How do you see the arts and entertainment scene evolving in Adelaide over the next few years?
The film industry! More and more production companies are choosing to make their movies in Adelaide and it is going to be amazing!
