Scotch College Adelaide journeys to the underworld with Hadestown at Thebarton Theatre

This August, the stage of the newly revitalised Thebarton Theatre will come alive with the thunderous sounds, haunting poetry and electrifying storytelling of Hadestown, as Scotch College Adelaide presents one of the most ambitious school productions ever staged in South Australia.
Defy the gods. Hold onto hope.
Winner of multiple Tony Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, Hadestown has captivated audiences worldwide with its bold fusion of folk, jazz, blues and contemporary musical theatre.
Now, Scotch College Adelaide brings Anaïs Mitchell’s globally celebrated work to a new generation of performers and audiences in one of Adelaide’s most iconic venues. Featuring a large-scale revolving stage, striking contemporary design, and a cast and crew of more than 65 students, this production promises to be visually spectacular and emotionally resonant.
Where myth meets music, and love battles fate.
Bold, contemporary and deeply human, Hadestown tells the intertwining myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone, in a story exploring love, hope, sacrifice and resilience. More than simply a school musical, the production reflects the strength and ambition of the performing arts program at Scotch College Adelaide, with students working across performance, technical production, design and stage management to realise a work of exceptional scale and artistry.
Step into the underground. The road to Hadestown awaits.
