Visiting The Gov
59 Port Road, Hindmarsh, an inner suburb of Adelaide. It is located in the City of Charles Sturt, between South Road to the west and North Adelaide, with the River Torrens forming its southern boundary.
The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel was opened in 1848 with its signature facade unchanged throughout 175 years of operation. It underwent renovations in 1988 and fell into disrepair before the Tonkin family took over in 1993, developing it into a major live music venue. In 2017, The Gov received both the AHA(SA) and National AHA awards for Best Live Music Venue and was inducted into the South Australian Music Awards Hall of Fame.
The venue is open Wednesday to Saturday from 3pm, with the kitchen open 3-9pm. Dogs are welcome in the Gov Gardens, and all assistance dogs are allowed indoors. The venue promotes safe spaces with trained staff. Earplugs are available for purchase at the bar for $2 per pair. Valid photo ID (Driver's License, Proof of Age Card, or Passport) is required for admission and alcohol service. General admission shows are standing room unless specified. Access seating is available upon request by contacting the venue.
