US progressive rock band Elder return to Australia in May 2027 for headline shows across Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, supporting their new album Through Zero released through Bird's Robe. Melbourne's Khan join as support for all dates.
Elder, the Massachusetts-born progressive rock band, return to Australia in May 2027 for their first headline tour in 12 years. The band last appeared in Australia in 2015 alongside Earthless. Now based primarily in Germany, Elder bring their latest album Through Zero, released through Adelaide label Bird's Robe, supported by Melbourne stoner rock outfit Khan on all dates.
Through Zero marks a significant creative milestone for the band. Recorded in Berlin across 2025 between tours, it's the first album Elder both produced and co-mixed themselves alongside longtime collaborator Richard Behrens. The record draws on two decades of the band's mastery of crushing riffs, progressive patterns, hypnotic grooves and ethereal atmosphere, while introducing textures and sequences from outside rock's traditional sphere. Band member Nick DiSalvo explains the album title borrows from engineering terminology—a frequency passing through zero into the negative—as a metaphor for a midpoint along an unseen path, exploring themes of life and death, frustration and hope.
Founded around 2006 in coastal Massachusetts, Elder have released six full-length albums, four EPs and two live records. The band's refusal to stagnate across lineup changes and international relocation has established them as leaders in heavy psychedelic rock, absorbing diverse influences without falling into pastiche or losing their distinctive identity. Adelaide's Gov shows 18 May 2027, with doors at 7:30pm and tickets at $81+BF.
