Third Stone brings Jimi Hendrix back to The Gov for a night of classics and deep cuts

Friday 18 September 2026The Gov

Third Stone tribute band performs Jimi Hendrix classics and deep cuts at The Gov in Hindmarsh on Friday 18 September 2026, with support from Big Tom's Blues Band. Guitarist and vocalist Jimmy Petkoff leads the night through Hendrix hits including Purple Haze and Foxy Lady alongside extended versions of Voodoo Child, Third Stone From The Sun and Little Wing, with doors at 7:30pm and tickets $30 plus booking fee.

Jimi Hendrix has been gone 56 years this September, but his fingerprints are still all over rock guitar. Third Stone, a tribute outfit built around guitarist and vocalist Jimmy Petkoff, is marking that anniversary with a full night of Hendrix material at The Gov in Hindmarsh on Friday 18 September 2026.

The setlist takes in the hits everyone knows, Purple Haze and Foxy Lady among them, before stretching out into the longer, more exploratory side of Hendrix's catalogue. Voodoo Child, Third Stone From The Sun and Little Wing all get room to breathe, which is really the point with this material. Hendrix wasn't just a hitmaker, he was a guitarist who used the studio and the stage as tools for invention, and any tribute worth its salt needs to reflect that rather than just running through the singles.

Petkoff is a familiar face on the Adelaide heavier music circuit, also fronting metal band Raven Black Night, and that background suggests a player comfortable with both technical demand and stage presence. He's joined in Third Stone by a rhythm section built for the job.

Support comes from Big Tom's Blues Band, another Petkoff-fronted project, this time with Big Tom on bass and vocals and Adrian Burton on drums. It's a genuine blues/rock outfit rather than a covers act, and the band will be previewing originals from their upcoming debut album alongside a handful of well-chosen covers. Having the same core musicians anchor both sets gives the night a tightness that double bills don't always manage, and it means the transition from support to headliner should feel like a continuation rather than a gear change.

Doors open at 7:30pm, and tickets are $30 plus booking fee. The Gov has long been one of Adelaide's most reliable rooms for this kind of tribute show, with a stage and sound setup that suits guitar-driven rock without much fuss.

Hendrix tribute nights are two a penny nationally, but the pairing here, a psychedelic-era tribute with a genuinely active blues/rock act, gives this one a bit more substance than the usual nostalgia circuit gig. Anyone who wants their Hendrix played loud, long and with some actual musicianship behind it should find plenty to like.
