Dutch piano duo brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen, protégés of Maria João Pires, bring their acclaimed two-piano interpretation of classic and twentieth-century works to UKARIA Cultural Centre on 30 August 2026. The Jussens have recorded nine albums for Deutsche Grammophon since 2010 and regularly perform with major orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony and Chicago Symphony.
The program traces the evolution of piano duo writing from its origins through the nineteenth century salon tradition. Mozart's Sonata for Four Hands in D and works by Schubert and Mendelssohn open the performance, demonstrating how increasing access to pianos in middle-class homes shaped the genre's development during that era.
After the interval, the Jussens shift focus to Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in its four-hand piano arrangement—the form in which the composer first heard his creation performed by Stravinsky and Claude Debussy in 1913. The performance runs approximately two hours including a 25-minute interval, with complimentary afternoon tea served. Adult tickets are $80, concession $75, and under-40s $40.
