Adelaide Chamber Singers with Umberto Clerici and James Crabb

The Adelaide Chamber Singers, led by artistic director Christie Anderson, present a late-afternoon meditation featuring cellist Umberto Clerici and classical accordionist James Crabb. The program opens with Bach's setting of a sixteenth-century Lutheran hymn, followed by John Tavener's haunting Svyati for solo cello and choir, which draws on Slavonic liturgical music. Bach's robust Gamba Sonata No. 3 in G minor, arranged for cello and accordion, rounds out the first half before a 25-minute interval.

The second half journeys through sacred and contemplative works by Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds (Stars, featuring tuned wine glasses), Australian composer Anne Cawrse (setting Kate Llewellyn's poetry), and American poet Wendell Berry's words set by Joseph Twist. Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina's In Croce presents an ecstatic and piercing dialogue between cello and accordion before British composer Owain Park's reimagined night prayer gently leads towards Bach's closing hymn.

The event runs approximately two hours including interval on Saturday 22 August 2026 at 4:30pm. Ticket prices are $80 for adults, $75 concession, and $40 for under-40s. Post-concert two-course dining with the artists is available for $84. Bus services are offered both post-concert and post-dinner. The event is currently sold out but a waitlist is available.
