The Piccadilly is a heritage-listed multiplex cinema with three screens housed in a 1940 Art Deco building. It originally opened as a single-screen theatre with 1,437 seats and was converted to a three-screen cinema in 1990. The venue hosts film screenings and is intended to occasionally host live music on weekends and arts festival events.

History

The Piccadilly Theatre opened on 23 October 1940, designed in Art Deco style by Evans, Bruer & Hall and Sydney architects Guy Crick and Bruce Furse. It was renamed Forum Cinema in 1967 and closed in 1983. Bob Wallis purchased the building to save it from demolition and converted it into a three-screen multiplex in 1990. A major A$2 million refurbishment was completed in 2022, during which original features including the Piccadilly Circus mural were restored.

The venue has a new licensed food and drinks lounge space and accessible facilities including a lift. Original features including a restored 35mm film projector are available for retrospectives and special events. The cinema occasionally hosts live music on weekends and arts festival events.
