Adelaide Fringe is Australia's biggest arts festival and the world's second-largest annual arts festival after Edinburgh Fringe. Held mid-February to mid-March each year, it features more than 7,000 artists performing over 1,300 events across hundreds of venues in Adelaide, showcasing performing and visual art forms including cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, theatre, music and more.

Adelaide, South Australia. The festival takes place across the city and suburbs, with main venue hubs including The Garden of Unearthly Delights in Rundle Park, Gluttony in Rymill Park, and Fool's Paradise in Victoria Square.

History

Founded in 1960 as a loose collection of official and unofficial events by local artists in response to exclusions from the Adelaide Festival of Arts. It became an incorporated body in 1975, held biennial festivals initially, and transitioned to an annual festival in 2007.

Good to know

Adelaide Fringe is an open-access event with no curator selecting events. Accessibility has been greatly improved in recent years with initiatives to ensure venues and events are accessible to people of all abilities. The festival includes both free opening night celebrations and free events alongside ticketed events throughout the month-long festival.
