The Hard-Ons first toured with Poison Idea back in the late '80s and first recorded with Jerry A as guest vocalist back in 1993. The first product of their new collaboration came out in the form of single - "You Won't Shut Up"/"Dead End Turnaround" - released ahead of the American dates last year. And in August of this year, having just shared stages together in Europe, the team, which is known forthwith as Hard-Ons/Jerry A, released their long-awaited album, on Cheersquad Records & Tapesin Australia and NZ and American Leather for the ROW.
Of the collaboration, Blackie from the Hard-Ons says, "We toured and collaborated a few times before and always talked about getting serious... well here's the start of that. Hard-Ons with Jerry A!! It's happening."
The two bands - Jerry A and Poison Idea and the Hard-Ons - shared not only a mutual history and a significant level of influence but a mutual love of all things hard and fast. Both bands formed in the early '80s, having been weened at a young age on the classic punk of the late '70s as well as its high energy rock'n'roll precursors. Both bands quickly became iconoclastic transgressors of both good taste and punk convention as they moved into harder/wilder realms later in the decade, and both bands spent much of the '90s sitting atop - and at the same time somewhat apart from - the international hardcore scene.
Jerry and the Hard-ons both are noted fans as well as being musicians. Poison Idea released an acclaimed covers LP of favourite songs in '92 while the Hard-Ons, as well as having done the odd cover over the years (perhaps most notably a version of AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock" with Henry Rollins on vocals) have more recently put their money where their mouths are, backing recent Australian tours by both Redd Kross and legendary Adverts mainman TV Smith, for whom they became the Australian Adverts earlier this year. The fact that Jerry and the Hard-Ons are massive fans of each other is why this collaboration is happening.
The subject of a two-part documentary film, the first standalone part of which coincided with their 40th anniversary in 2024, the Hard-Ons released their latest album I Like You Getting Older and the film soundtrack The Most Australian Band Ever! - The Secret Origin of the Hard-Ons in 2025 and released a new Korean Language mini-album this year, before their first tour of Korea.
Hard-Ons/Jerry A is a sledgehammer hardcore punk rock'n'roll assault which will appeal to fans of Dickcheese and Feel the Darkness both, and it provides an explosive taste of what fans will hear when Jerry A and the Hard-ons will bring to Australia together in 2027.
