The Whale: Written by Samuel D. Hunter
Directed by Geoff Brittain
Presented by The University of Adelaide Theatre Guild
7 – 16 November 2025
Little Theatre,

THE WHALE tells the story of a morbidly obese English teacher who hides from the world.
Charlie cannot stop eating to the detriment of everyone around him, including his long-estranged daughter. Desperate to reconnect, he reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen.
Big-hearted and fiercely funny, The Whale is the story of a man’s last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places.
The 2022 Academy Award winning movie was written by and adapted from Hunter’s 2011 play.
Prosthetics specially designed by students at Media Makeup.
