Review by Markus Hamence – Performance date: Wednesday 12 March 2025, The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Adelaide, South Australia
Isaac Humphries, renowned as an Australian basketball superstar, has once again graced the Adelaide Fringe with his musical prowess in the show ‘More of Me’. Following a sold-out 2024 season, Humphries returns with a performance that delves deeper into his life, offering audiences more songs, more stories, and much more personal insights.

A Journey Beyond the Court
Transitioning from the basketball court to the stage, Humphries showcases his soaring tenor voice and masterful song writing skills. The performance is a blend of heartfelt and worthy originals and just a couple of toe-tapping covers, each piece reflecting his personal journey and love for music and experiencing life as he discovers his place in the crazy world we live in. His narratives, intertwined with melodies, evoke a spectrum of emotions – bringing tears, laughter, and moments that make you want to dance.
Entering the stage (via stairs) with a fabulous big black long faux fur coat, Isaac looked comfortable and ready to divulge his life through song and story. He does this with heart on sleeve and much believability in his performance. You can see the pain he has endured in every word apoken or sung. And you can see the joy and confidence in who he is now.
Let’s go further, or MORE…
Behind the Man
The band are tight. Keys, drums and bass delivered the goods and created the vibe required to fill the space with the energy that Isaac’s voice demands. The backing singers, equally, great. They hold there own easily. A standout was an Adele cover ‘Rolling In The Deep’, with Isaac taking a step back and doing backing vocals. Kudos for this.
Critical Praise Thus Far
The show has garnered significant praise, with one describing it as a “Slam Dunk of a Performance!” This accolade underscores Humphries’ ability to captivate and move his audience, seamlessly blending his athletic charisma with artistic expression.
Personal Triumphs and Advocacy
Beyond his musical and athletic talents, Humphries stands as a beacon of authenticity and courage. In November 2022, he publicly came out as gay, becoming the only openly gay male professional basketball player in the world at that time. This significant personal milestone adds depth to his performances, as he openly shares his life lessons and experiences, fostering a deeper connection with his audience.
The Wrap Up
“More of Me” isn’t just a night of music; it’s an intimate story and a life experience that invites the audience into Humphries’ multifaceted world. It IS a celebration of where he is now, at this point. His seamless transition from sports to music, combined with his openness about personal struggles and triumphs, makes this performance both inspiring and entertaining. For those seeking a unique blend of storytelling, music, and heartfelt authenticity, Isaac Humphries’ ‘More of Me’ is a must-see. Get along…
I can’t wait to see MORE of this artist. The best is yet to come.
