MULTI-AWARD-WINNING MUSICIAN TIM MINCHIN RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘THE SONG OF THE MASOCHIST‘ AND CONTINUES THE ROLL-OUT OF HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM TimMinchinTimeMachine OUT 25 JULY VIA BMG
AUSTRALIAN TOUR BEGINS OCTOBER 2025

Following the rapturous reception of first single “Ruby”, celebrated singer-songwriter Tim Minchin today unveils the second track from his upcoming album TimMinchinTimeMachine, out 25 July via BMG.
“The Song of The Masochist” is a swaggering, sharp-tongued homage to a complicated acquaintance, fusing elements of rock, jazz and blues in a track that showcases Minchin’s fearless wit and signature genre-hopping brilliance. Listen and watch the official music video HERE.
With biting lyricism, Minchin narrates the twisted dynamic of self-inflicted suffering with theatrical flair and musical command. It’s a track that perfectly embodies the ethos of TimMinchinTimeMachine, an album that breathes new life into a cache of unreleased songs written over 20 years ago, before Minchin’s rise to global recognition.
Tim Minchin said: “Masochist is a jam track written in my early 20s, and might be unique in that it’s the only one from that era that I’ve never fallen out of love with. Sitting as it does in that place between satire and serious, it has never made it into one of my major tours… until this year. I’m stoked with this studio version, which I had taught to the boys the day before, and recorded bass, drums and guitar as live. I reckon you can feel that chaotic immediacy, yet it’s rooted in Mannell and Haselwood’s bang-in-the-pocket groove. I fkn love that groove.”
“The Song of The Masochist” follows the emotionally stirring “Ruby”, which introduced the new project with heartfelt storytelling and lyrical precision. Both tracks serve as an open invitation into Minchin’s vault, an anthology of formative, never-before-released works, reimagined for today.
Tim’s new album TimMinchinTimeMachine is a curated collection of 11 songs, some unearthed, some reshaped that offer a raw, witty, and poignant look into the songwriter he was before the world took notice. It’s a follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut studio album Apart Together, which earned four stars from The Independent, praised as “a tenderly considered pop album that subverts expectations.” Pre-order TimMinchinTimeMachine HERE.
Ahead of the release and in celebration of 20 years since his explosive arrival on the UK comedy scene, Minchin will hit the road this summer with his ironically titled tour, Songs The World Will Never Hear. Kicking off on 4 June 2025 at Soho Theatre Walthamstow, the tour will span 20 cities across the UK, including three sold-out nights at the legendary Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, from 4-6 July. Tim will then bring the tour home to Australia, with shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth, Newcastle, Sydney, Gold Coast and Toowoomba throughout October, November and December 2025. Tickets are on sale now at TimMinchin.com.
Audiences can expect an evening packed with unforgettable songs and stories, as Minchin looks back on how a Perth cabaret pianist ended up building one of the most eclectic and extraordinary careers in entertainment. Delivered with signature blend of razor-sharp wit, musical virtuosity, and disarming honesty, the set list will draw from three decades of unique songwriting.
Following the success of Apart Together and his acclaimed live performances across the UK and Australia, TimMinchinTimeMachine signals a new chapter in Minchin’s musical journey, one that looks both backwards and forwards, capturing the beauty, complexity and absurdity of life through song.
