Look To Jamaican Rocksteady and ‘60s Girl-Group Pop For Inspiration On New Single “My Heart Is Drowning” / Listen HERE
Thee Sacred Souls have shared a final preview of their anticipated sophomore album – Got A Story To Tell – out this Friday on Daptone Records. The new single, “My Heart Is Drowning,” is a ballad of guilty feelings that draws on two pivotal wells of inspiration for the band: Jamaican rocksteady and ‘60s girl-group pop. The spectral slow tempo of rocksteady, with its thick bass lines and simple guitar riffs, is the instrumental basis upon which singer Josh Lane sings about making his lover cry, eventually losing her. The chorus is accented with soft backing vocals and a trundle of piano. In its final moments, it takes an unexpected turn toward the sunny, even though the protagonist is still languishing in regret.

Got A Story To Tell, written by Thee Sacred Souls’ founding members Alejandro Garcia, Salvador Samano, and Josh Lane, features 12 brand new tracks that further cement the band’s status as masters of modern soul. Recorded at Penrose Recorders in Riverside, CA, with producer Gabriel Roth at the helm, the album reflects the band’s artistic growth and deep connection to the soul tradition that inspires them. The lead up to the new album release has been tremendous – including a triumphant debut at Celebrate Brooklyn in July for nearly 10,000 fans, a spotlight set at Montreal Jazz Festival, and at Fool In Love performing alongside soul legends in Los Angeles. The band also just nabbed a co-sign from Beyoncé in a recent GQ story.

Thee Sacred Souls’ touring continues with a US leg beginning October 11 in Charlottesville, VA, including sold out shows at Brooklyn’s Paramount Theater November 8 and three sold out nights at The Wiltern in Los Angeles in early December. See below for the full itinerary.
