Sturt Avenue: Beeraboutit

STURT AVENUE FIND HOPE IN THE RUBBLE ON NEW SINGLE ‘BEERABOUTIT’ AND EP ‘BEER SONGS’

For Adelaide indie-folk outfit Sturt Avenue, the pub has never just been a pub, It’s the debrief after another long week & the group chat made physical. Their new single ‘Beeraboutit’, turns that familiar Australian ritual into something unexpectedly poignant: a ragged-but-hopeful anthem for people doing their best to hold onto joy while the world feels increasingly uncertain.

Built around rollicking folk instrumentation, singalong gang vocals and a chorus that lands somewhere between a coping mechanism and a battle cry, ‘Beeraboutit’ captures the peculiar camaraderie of modern Australian burnout with equal parts humour, heart and brutal honesty.

‘Beeraboutit’ balances shades of classic pub-born Australian songwriting in its bones, but the delivery feels refreshingly current: loose, melodic and self-aware, with a playful energy reminiscent of a younger generation reshaping Australiana in their own image.

“The song’s really about the ways we try to decompress while carrying the weight of work, uncertainty and all the expectations we once had for ourselves,” says frontman and songwriter Bryn Soden. “There’s obviously sadness in that, but also something beautiful. The world might be falling apart, but at least we’re falling apart together.”

Led by Bryn Soden, Sturt Avenue have steadily carved out a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most quietly magnetic live acts, bringing together mandolin, banjo, accordion, violin and rich group interplay into songs that feel lived-in from the very first listen. Their music draws from the lineage of distinctly Australian storytelling – equal parts suburban poetry, dry humour and emotional openness – while carrying the warmth and immediacy of contemporary indie-folk.

The track also doubles as a love letter to Adelaide institution Wheatsheaf Hotel – affectionately referenced in the song as “our favourite drinking place” – a venue the band describe as their “home away from home.”

Rather than releasing ‘Beeraboutit’ as a standalone single, the band are packaging it alongside previous release ‘Beer Song’ and brand new track ‘Schnitty’ as a three-song EP titled ‘Beer Songs’. While each track stands firmly on its own, together they form a cohesive snapshot of working-class escapism, friendship and the small rituals that keep people afloat.

Earlier single ‘Beer Song’ leaned into nostalgia and connection – all glowing streetlights, shared memories and the comfort of familiar faces – while ‘Schnitty’ closes the collection with tongue planted firmly in cheek, chronicling the less-than-glamorous spoils of life as a folk musician: namely, a free schnitzel and a couple of beers after a gig.

Recorded during a late-night session in the Adelaide Hills, ‘Schnitty’ captures the band at their most unfiltered and playful, complete with spontaneous studio moments and the unmistakable feeling of mates making each other laugh in real time.

To celebrate the release, the band will launch the EP with a special hometown show at Cafe Komodo on Sunday May 24 alongside Smug Drugglers and Xander Monteath.
