SORDID ORDEAL Release Hot New Single ‘Tigress’

By Markus Hamence

…Ahead of Single Launch @ Stay Gold, October 19
Official Launch of The Voice Of Melbourne

Just 8 months after the release of their debut album, Melbourne Stout Rockers,
Sordid Ordeal have dropped Tigress, the first single from their forthcoming second album which is due out in early 2025.

Tigress is their bluesiest distillation yet; a hot-rodded, highway road-trip banger that represents a more stripped back arrangement for the band, allowing the cut-throat guitars and pounding drums to dominate the tune.

Tigress follows Alastríona, a woman born and raised in a conservative, rural part of New South Wales where there is an iron-clad expectation that women will simply fall in love, marry and have children. She chooses not to follow this path, but instead moves to Sydney to experience the cultural expression of her generation, exploring art, music, culture and sexual indulgence.

In the heaving metropolis of 80’s Sydney she attains independence and self reliance, having her own career and conducting her relationships on her own terms.

‘Tigress’ is a loud, bold statement from a band on a meteoric rise from their origins as local show legends to interstate touring Stout Rock powerhouse. This track and video is a definitive statement that they are well and truly on the campaign trail again.

To celebrate the release of Tigress, Sordid are throwing it a launch party at Stay Gold!

Gooooood morning and welcome to Flinders Street Station…

Over the last year Melbourne commuters have become familiar with that phrase accompanied by some brilliant musings from Flinders Street platform announcer Laurence Hewson. His feel good public addresses have become the stuff of legend and went viral just before last Xmas with Laurence being interviewed on the ABCSunrise9 NewsThe Herald SunThe AgeSBS and many more.

The Voice Of Flinders Station continued into 2024 unabated and became more popular than ever with people coming in on inter city trains across Victoria and beyond just so they can hear Laurence and make their day that much better.

Now, it’s time to take things to the next level and the Voice Of Melbourne is primed to become the official word on the street. If the Voice of Flinders got commuters to prick up their ears, the Voice Of Melbourne will wake up the entire city!

While he may brighten peoples days on the platform and around town, Laurence also rocks them by night as the frontman for Melbourne, (Naarm), rockers Sordid Ordeal.

At the height of the pandemic Sordid Ordeal released the killer tune, Great Ocean Road, who’s refrain ‘I wanna get the f*ck outta Melbourne’ was felt deep in the core of everyone trapped in their houses across the city and indeed nationwide. It was a literal lockdown anthem that was instantly relatable.

A succession of singles followed, namely Citizen & A Purely Genetic Connection in 2022 and Confession in 2023 culminating in their gargantuan debut album, “When I Left Town” which was released on February 16!

When I Left Town’ is the first of a two-part coming-of-age story. Based semi-autobiographically on frontman Laurence Hewson’s move from the country to the city, it traces it’s way from Wagga Station in the NSW Riverina, down the Main Southern Line and over the Victorian border to the concrete canyons and dark alleyways of Melbourne.

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of Howard and Rudd-era Australia, the story reflects on a sheltered teenager, ravenous and insatiable, leaving behind a family and religion, searching for identity in a city bursting with colour. Recorded and produced over 5 years the record features a 12-piece choir, a brass ensemble, a string quintet and a Celtic band.

ABOUT SORDID ORDEAL

Sordid Ordeal are a colossal rock band from Naarm (Melbourne, Australia), a musical tour de force and foundation band of the Stout Rock genre. Their sound is an amalgamation of folkish story-telling & ballads with blistering, mangy rock and epic anthems. They weld together the abrasive & heavy with the gentle & intimate, creating an incendiary mix of subversion and hedonism.

Sordid released their first EP ‘Great Ocean Road’ at the beginning of 2020, right on the cusp of Australia’s Covid lockdowns and border closures, propelling the title single into a lockdown anthem and road trip favourite.

Their debut album ‘When I Left Town’ was released in February 2024 and premiered on the Australian Independent Record charts at #8. Launched to a capacity crowd in Melbourne, the record drew critical acclaim from Triple M Radio, Heavy Mag and several other publications.

The band is now preparing to release their follow-up album ‘Nothing Was The Same Again’, due to be unleashed in 2025.
