Nathan Lamont chases nostalgia on high-octane new single Like We Used To

By

Nathan Lamont releases new single 'Like We Used To', a high-octane country-pop anthem about young love and nostalgia written during his 2025 CMAA Sister Cities Nashville Exchange. The track features thumping drums, twangy guitars and a chorus built for singing at volume, produced by Michael De Lorenzis and accompanied by a visualiser filmed at a Pokolbin winery.

Fresh from his appearance at the Country Calling Showcase at Groundwater Country Music Festival, country-pop riser Nathan Lamont is coming in hot with his new single, ‘Like We Used To’.

A windows-down, volume-up country anthem, ‘Like We Used To’ pairs thumping drums, twangy guitars and a chorus built for singing at the top of your lungs. With a little more old-school country swagger than fans might expect, Nathan delivers a high-octane slice of nostalgia that's equal parts heartache and good-time energy.

But beneath all that horsepower is a story about young love and the things we wish we could get back.

“‘Like We Used To’ is a really personal song for me, but in a way that I think a lot of people can relate to,” reveals Nathan. “It’s about looking back at a time when life felt simpler, remembering the little things that made a relationship special and wondering if you can find some of that feeling again as life changes.”

Written in Nashville alongside Australian songwriter Jesse Dozzi during Nathan's 2025 CMAA Sister Cities Nashville Exchange, ‘Like We Used To’ finds the singer-songwriter looking in the rear-view mirror, wondering where the good old days went and whether there's still a road back.

“We started with the idea of those early memories, young love, driving around in a beat up car, with the windows down, and it just grew from there. We wanted to make something that felt nostalgic without being heavy, so we leaned into a big, upbeat country-pop sound with driving guitars and a really catchy chorus.”

Produced by Michael De Lorenzis, ‘Like We Used To’ doesn't waste much time getting out of first gear. A relentless driving beat and gutsy guitars give the track plenty of muscle, while Nathan's unmistakable vocal rides high above the arrangement. It's a sound made for the live stage, and that was exactly the intention.

“I had one request to Michael, which was to give me the type of energy I could start a show to and Michael absolutely nailed that balance between the live, organic feel of the guitars and a polished modern country-pop production.”

The single arrives hot on the heels of ‘Loves To Hate Me’, which made plenty of noise across Australian country radio, claiming the #1 spot on both the AMRAP Community Radio National and Regional Airplay Charts across all genres, and reaching #30 on the Country Songs Top 40 Australian Airplay Chart.

A proud Wiradjuri man from Wagga Wagga, Nathan has plenty of runs on the board. With more than 4 million global streams, 3 x Toyota Star Maker grand finalist appearances and 2 x APRA AMCOS Professional Development Award Top 5 finishes to his name, the singer-songwriter is building some serious momentum.

And if the song isn't enough to get your feet moving, the accompanying visualiser might just do the trick.

Filmed at a winery in Pokolbin by Jeremy Minett of Eyes and Ears Creative, the video sees Nathan swapping the driver's seat for the dance floor. With a little help from country line-dance choreographer Dusty Rose, the team cooked up a routine that blends traditional line dancing with TikTok-inspired moves. There's just one catch: Nathan admits that dancing isn't exactly his strong suit.

“I definitely got in my head about the dancing because I have absolutely no natural coordination, but I gave it my best shot. In the end, I think that probably adds to the fun of it. It’s not meant to take itself too seriously, and that was really the whole point of the visualiser.”

With a run of live dates taking him from regional New South Wales to Queensland and Victoria, Nathan is gearing up to give ‘Like We Used To’ the full-band treatment. Following appearances at the Dolly Parton Festival, Going Country Fest and Groundwater Country Music Festival, upcoming stops include The Beer Shed in Leumeah, Wagga Wagga's Carnival of Cups and Echuca Country Fest.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the road with the band and playing these shows over the coming months. I’ve not done a lot of touring in the past, so to have the opportunity to visit a string of different towns and cities in a small period of time is very new and exciting for me.”

With a growing reputation for bringing the party wherever he goes, Nathan Lamont is showing no signs of slowing down. ‘Like We Used To’ is all big hooks, open roads and a healthy dose of country swagger. Buckle up.
