Country Enough: Melanie Dyer's new single strips back what it means to be country

By

Melanie Dyer's third studio album Daisies From Dirt is out now via ABC Music, led by the single Country Enough. Recorded at Saxman Studios in Nashville with producer Grady Saxman, the ten-track record explores the space between Dyer's country roots on a NSW farm and her year chasing a music career overseas, moving between intimate acoustic moments and driving country-pop anthems across songs addressing family, heartbreak, and home.

After a year spent chasing her country music dream on the other side of the world, Melanie Dyer returns home with her most personal statement yet. Out today via ABC Music her third studio album Daisies From Dirt arrives alongside the bouncy new single, ‘Country Enough’.

Written as an autobiographical soundtrack to the country roots that have followed Melanie from a farm in regional NSW all the way to Nashville, ‘Country Enough’ is a playful reminder that country isn't something you prove with a pair of Wranglers and a cowboy hat.

“Country Enough feels like the perfect introduction to the album,” shares the singer-songwriter. Lyrically, it's an autobiographical soundtrack to who I am and what country is to me, so naturally I wrote this one on my own. Growing up on a farm, learning to drive in a paddock basher at age 10, and wearing homemade clothes, country has always run deep in my roots.”

A powerhouse slice of polished pop-country, the track trades straight-up honky-tonk for a Sheryl Crow-meets-The Chicks energy, layering driving guitars over an edgy groove and a punchy hook-filled chorus.

“The band had so much fun recording ‘Country Enough.’ It feels fitting that the music itself reflects the heart of the track - that country is whatever you make it.”

It’s the perfect opening chapter for Daisies From Dirt, an album shaped during one of the biggest periods of change in Melanie’s life. As she packed her bags and moved halfway around the world to Nashville, her family back home was simultaneously closing a lifelong chapter of their own, selling the farm that raised her.

Across ten tracks, the record finds beauty in that uncomfortable space between heartache and relief, homesickness and freedom – tracing the journey from the country kid who started writing songs at twelve to an artist building a life and career thousands of kilometres from home.

“Daisies From Dirt, the title track, serves as the through-line for the entire album,” explains Melanie. These songs take you on a journey - from celebrating my country roots and the people and place that raised me, to honouring a dream and navigating the raw detours of chasing it on the other side of the world.”

Recorded at Saxman Studios just outside Nashville with producer Grady Saxman, Daisies From Dirt also marks the first time Melanie has tracked an album live in the studio. With the same core band playing together across the record, its ten songs move naturally between intimate acoustic moments, moody baritone guitars and pedal steel to driving drums and full-throttle country-pop anthems.

The result ties together a string of singles that have steadily revealed different sides of the album: the family love story of ‘Golden Girl’, deeply personal tribute ‘Mama Knows Best’, reflective ‘If She Only Knew’, and uplifting title track ‘Daisies From Dirt’. ‘Country Enough’ now brings the story back to where it began - Melanie, her upbringing and her definition of home.

Beyond the singles, Daisies From Dirt touches on some darker and more personal territory. The playful ‘Whiplash’ turns a missed chance with an ex into a banjo-driven kiss-off, while dark horse ‘Twinkle’ heads somewhere moodier, pairing a cautionary tale of a silver-tongued charmer with gritty guitars and an eerie, atmospheric edge. At the other end of the spectrum, ‘Three Daughters’ is perhaps Melanie at her most vulnerable, unpacking the sale of her family farm and her place as the youngest of three daughters. Together, they give the record some welcome grit and shadow, stretching Daisies From Dirt well beyond the polished country-pop of its singles.

The album arrives during a landmark year for the singer-songwriter. Since relocating to Nashville, Melanie has performed at CMA Fest and SXSW, sold out The Listening Room Cafe, performed at the Australian Embassy in Washington D.C. and delivered the Australian national anthem at Nationals Park. She returns home a 3 x Golden Guitarnominee, 3 x APRA Most Performed Country Work nominee and APRA Professional Development Award winner, with more than 14 million career streams behind her.

Following on from her recent appearance at Groundwater Country Music Festival, Melanie kicks off a run of intimate East Coast dates. Starting with a hometown performance at Sapphire City Festival in Inverell, the run continues through Port Macquarie, Camden and finally a headline show at Tamworth Country Music Festival in January 2027.

“I am so excited to bring this album back to home soil in October. I haven’t toured since my ‘Had To Be There Tour’ a couple of years ago! I’ll be playing a handful of intimate shows across the East Coast, including my hometown, sharing the stories behind the songs and selling my first ever record on vinyl which I’m so proud of.”

For Melanie, Daisies From Dirt isn't simply a record about leaving home. It’s about discovering how much of it you carry with you.

“If a stranger wanted to know who I am, this is the album I’d put in their hands. It’s grit-laced, heartfelt, and unapologetically 'country enough’ to me.”
