Johnston City have released new single 'Girt By Sea' via Dashville Community Records, the second track from their forthcoming debut album Decie's Pride. Written by band leader Daniel T Johnston, the driving rock ballad explores a parent-child conversation about national identity and generational blind spots, with Johnston reflecting on how children's unfiltered questions challenge accepted assumptions about the world.

Heartland rock outfit Johnston City return with ‘Girt By Sea’, the second single to be lifted from the NSW Hunter Valley band's forthcoming debut album Decie’s Pride.

Written by band leader & Dashville native Daniel T Johnston, the driving rock ballad touches on the exchange between a parent and a child of today, where innocence meets insight and curiosity becomes a catalyst for change.

Of the song, Johnston says; “Through the unfiltered questions of our children, we glimpse the absurdities of the lessons we once accepted without a second thought.

Their fearless curiosity shines a light on the blind spots of our generation, challenging the complacency and ignorance we never dared to confront.

Our home is girt by sea?? What does that even mean?

Our children need to ask the questions, but I have the same questions, and so it requires deep reflection and honesty, before providing the answers.”

Johnston City combine the gritty, hammer-and-tongs energy of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger alongside the intricate, sweet vocal harmonies of 1960s doo-wop. This well-revered band of local legends deliver an anthemic, classically muscular, soulful brand of Australian rock 'n' roll that will leave your ears and hearts ringing for more.
