A loud, unapologetic anthem inspired by the swagger of 2000s indie rock, What Have You Done asks a simple yet confronting question: just how far would you go to chase the things you want?

Driven by big guitars, shimmering synths and Jett's unmistakable knack for infectious pop songwriting, the track explores jealousy, obsession and denial through an exaggerated cinematic lens. Referencing Shakespearean tragedy with a distinctly modern twist, Jett delivers one of his most striking lyrical moments: "I know he's pretty; I see him in my dreams, I'm staring at him with an AR17." The result is a song that is as provocative as it is undeniably addictive.

Drawing inspiration from 2000s indie icons including The Strokes and LCD SoundsystemWhat Have You Done further cements Jett's evolving sonic identity, blending indie sleaze aesthetics with polished, hook-driven pop production.

"This might be my favourite track I've ever put out. This song feels like a real turning point in the project and pure pop catharsis to me. While the narrative is obviously heightened, pushing that level of antagonistic denial into something so fun just felt right. In my head, I was picturing a Tarantino-style '90s film or the action-comedy energy of ‘Death Becomes Her’. We took a lot of inspiration from 2000s indie rock and early indie sleaze, reimagining the sounds of The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem into something tight, immediate and impossible to ignore. It's one of those songs that grabs you from the very first listen", says Jett.

The release arrives amid a breakout period for the Canberra-born artist. This September Jett will be a featured artist performing live at BIGSOUND in Brisbane. Earlier this year he was elected as one of NME's 100 Essential Emerging Artists for 2026 quickly establishing himself as one of Australia's most exciting new pop voices. His growing list of accolades includes consecutive appearances in the triple j Unearthed High Yearbook in both 2023 and 2024, a nomination at the MusicACT Music Awards (MAMAs), and praise from global pop stars Sabrina Carpenter and Audrey Hobert, who have publicly championed his writing.

Since emerging as a fearless songwriter with a gift for blending sharp storytelling, infectious melodies and larger-than-life pop production, Jett has built a devoted audience through his distinctive artistic vision. With What Have You Done, he continues to push creative boundaries while offering another glimpse into the world of The American Heartthrob - a project that is proving to be his most ambitious and defining work to date.
