DUST & SALT
THE SECOND ALBUM FROM GEORGIE WINCHESTER IS OUT NOW
VIA DASHVILLE COMMUNITY RECORDS
Georgie Winchester, an indie artist hailing from Wonnurua country in the small town of Maitland, NSW, today releases Dust and Salt - a cacophony of live band, no click, rock and roll tracks as her second studio album.
The album’s scope takes you on a journey through nature and humanity with songs that rock and others that roll, mirroring our lives with moments that make us cry or feel angry, roll our eyes, and then fall in love all over again. Recorded at Dashville’s iconic bush studio in NSW and supported by Dashville Community Records, Georgie teamed up with acclaimed producers Jack Nigro (Dune Rats, Skegss, DMA’S), Christopher Dale (Melody Pool), and Sam Troy to craft these steel city gems.
The heart and soul of this project began on Georgie’s first lap around Australia in her rickety old Holden van in 2024, where she spent a lot of alone time driving through the spectacular deserts of rural Queensland, up along the infamous Stewart Highway, finding oasis’ in the Northern Territory, and exploring the top end of West Australia with other stray vagabonds. Georgie played at all the pubs along the way, met strangers and made friends while reflecting on a life of heartbreak, trauma, and questionable decisions she’d left back home. Accompanied by some op shop blues and 90’s rock CDs - notably Ash Grunwald and Pearl Jam, who, along with the beautiful landscape, inspired the sound of this record.

Returning home to Dashville’s iconic bush studios, the music was plotted. Aunty Alan brought a phat, somewhat distorted bass sound, Bailey Graeber hit hard and straight through the drum skins, and Georgie shredded both comp and lead, including a few bung notes and unusual riffs that take the listener by surprise. The songs encapsulate the live band sound and energy in the room. The focus track, 'Take My Time', is the odd one, a love song, finishing on a moment of hope, and paving the way for a new era.
The album's previously released singles - 'Crying In Private', 'Dust & Salt', 'Empty Station', and 'Leaving You For Months' -picked up airplay across Community Radio & Triple J, along with praise from local and international publications such as Australian Independent Records, Ear To The Ground & She Makes Music (UK).
Georgie will celebrate the release of her album ‘Dust & Salt’ with a Cream of the Cropheadline slot at the Hamilton Station Hotel on November 13. Joining the celebration are two incredible artists: Nenna, and Aunty Alan. Doors open at 7:30pm.
