Welsh Hit Drag Theatre Show Comes To Adelaide

Welsh drag queens Polly Amorous and Esther Parade bring their chaotic, sold out drag theatre cabaret musical extravaganza to Adelaide Fringe!

Polly & Esther runs 11th – 23rd March at Gluttony, Rymill Park at 10pm, and explores themes of chosen family, adolescence and defeating evil low-fat yoghurt based corporations!

Iconic Welsh drag queen duo Polly Amorous and Esther Parade bring their camp, chaotic drag theatre cabaret mashup to the Adelaide Fringe this March. After a sell out run in their Cardiff hometown, as well as a critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe debut, the pair are conquering Down Under with their unique flavour of satire and silliness, an unrivaled selection of camp-coded pop bangers, and a heartfelt message about queer identity and chosen family.

★★★★ “Imbued with real-life zest” Fest Mag

★★★★ “The real star of the show is the rapport between Polly and Esther” Theatre Weekly

Polly & Esther follows a mother daughter drag queen duo, thrown into the spotlight by an unlikely brand deal with a villainous low-fat yogurt-based probiotic gut-health drink. Their developing relationship sheds a satirical light on the dangers of pink-washing, and finding chosen family in unexpected places. It was originally developed as part of the Pleasance Theatre partnership scheme in the UK, in association with the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff.

On bringing the show to Adelaide Fringe, Polly Amorous said “Having spent a year in Australia on a working holiday pre-Covid, it feels really full circle to bring our show celebrating the magical chosen family particularly with queer people to the place I consider my second home. Plus any opportunity I get where I can sing Avril Lavigne to an audience every night is a win in my books. After the success of our run in Edinburgh, it feels almost fictional that we get to travel so far to tell our little story of how two queerdos fell in platonic love and became the best of friends.”

Esther Parade said ‘We’re living in a time when Drag is more popular than ever, yet LGBTQ+ individuals continue to have their rights questioned and threatened every day. With our show, we want to give an insight into the lives of two hilarious drag queens, in an abundant and joyful package, whilst hopefully delivering some home truths about the importance of sticking with your chosen family through thick and thin, and standing up for what’s right.’

Polly & Esther runs from 11th – 23rd March as part of Adelaide Fringe Festival, and is made possible by support from Wales Arts International and Arts Council Wales.

Tickets are available from the Gluttony website.
