Australian music icon Paul Kelly set to make first ever carols appearance in Adelaide

In a national first, Australian music legend Paul Kelly AO is set to perform at SeaLink Carols by Candlelight on Saturday 9 December. South Australians will be treated to a truly memorable and unique Christmas concert, as Kelly takes to the Carols stage for the first time in his highly decorated music career.

Adelaide born and raised, Kelly is considered one the nation’s greatest ever singer-songwriters and was recently immortalised in Adelaide’s city centre with a laneway renamed, Paul Kelly Lane, in honour of the musician.

Performing to a live audience is one of Kelly’s greatest passions and he is thrilled to bring his own brand of carols to this year’s SeaLink Carols by Candlelight.

“I learnt my first carols In Adelaide as a child and Silent Night has always been one of my favourites. I’m looking forward to singing it again soon in Elder Park and joining with others in a beautiful night of Christmas music” says Kelly.

Kelly’s impressive career spans over forty years and includes seventeen ARIA Awards, five APRA Awards and is an ARIA Hall of Fame inductee. In 2017, Kelly also received an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to the performing arts and promotion of national identity through contributions as a singer, songwriter and musician.

SeaLink Carols by Candlelight Executive Producer, Shauna Kane, is delighted to have Kelly perform in Adelaide.

“It’s truly an honour to have Paul Kelly perform at this year’s SeaLink Carols by Candlelight. Paul is one of Australia’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, storytellers, and poets, with his music capturing the essence of Australia and transcending generations,” says Kane.

“Paul has an authentic connection to Adelaide, and we are absolutely delighted he has chosen to perform at a carols event for the first time nationally, in his hometown,” adds Kane.

Paul Kelly will be joined on stage by an exciting line up of performers, including Casey Donovan, Beccy Cole, Paulini, Amber Lawrence, Rachael Beck, Matt Evans from Home and Away, Gospo Collective and stars from State Opera of South Australia.
