As frontman for legendary garage rockers The Stems, and blues heavy psych rockers DATURA4 (and formerly of power pop heroes DM3), Dom Mariani returns to his jangle pop roots with the country-tinged opus Jangleland.
Recorded with the help of a cracking band, featuring Joe Grech (Datura4) on bass, Salv Di Crisiuto drums, Pete Busher acoustic guitar and backing vocals (The Lone Rangers) and Luke Dux (The Floors, Kill Devil Hills) on pedal steel, Jangleland is the first taster from his forthcoming self-titled solo album.
Jangleland is an ode to the great west coast / electric folk rock of the sixties, infused with a unique Western Australian guitar pop flavour that Dom helped pioneer through the late 80’s and all the way through the 90’s.
Of the song, Dom says; “I’d written the song some time ago and kept going back to it on occasion playing at the odd solo show. I’d accumulated enough tunes over the last 10 years that didn’t fit with my current band DATURA4 and I thought it time to put them all on to one album. I’ve been a Byrds fan all my life and I’m still in awe of the sound that they made.”
The single is out now via BANDCAMP and on all streaming platforms.
“Sounding breezy with the close harmonies, pedal steel and bright acoustic guitars, sonically this is clearly a nod to the Byrds. Dom and the band take you on an audiophonic trip with this one, which is immediate and compelling and the only excuse you need to let go of your worries.” – American Highways
