Nexus Arts Presents Common Ground: Nexus Arts is pleased to present our mid-year program Common Ground, featuring live music and visual arts that share stories from culturally diverse artists from across the country.

Common Ground is a celebration of connection at Nexus Arts, where artists and audiences meet across cultures, disciplines, and perspectives. In a time when the world can feel divided, this program highlights the shared spaces that art makes possible.

Fruit Tree Sun workshop (10 April) by artists Allison Chhorn. Centred in this gathering is tea making, story sharing and reflections on inheritance. With ingredients inspired by Allison’s own maternal backyard, the garden becomes a metaphor for her family’s history in Australia.

Making Marks: Exploring Functional Design (23 April – 22 May) highlights the intersection between design and art. At the core of every object is functionality, and a range of techniques from ancient historic practices to contemporary technology are utilized, drawing attention to the shifts and changes of design in modern culture.

The Adventurous Project: Graphic Scores of Austin Engelhardt (24 April + 1 May). Esmond Choi brings together an eclectic group of musicians for an evening of curiosity, collaboration and sonic exploration, improvising to Austin Engelhardt’s graphic scores.

Letters from Home – Nexus Arts Orchestra (8 May) a collection of musical works reflecting its spirit of brilliant cross-cultural artistic collaboration. Featuring world premiere compositions by South Australian cellist and composer Jack Overall, it explores memory, identity and connection through sound.

Borogodó (15 May) is a new 7-piece ensemble made up of Mike Bevan, Alain Valodze, Fabian Hevia, Karen De Nardi, Gareth Chin, Gustavo Quintino with guest Andy Bevan. Borogodó is a
Brazilian expression meaning groove or an irresistible vibe, its set to be an engaging performance.

Wien Times Folk Sessions (22 May) is an intimate evening of contemporary Chinese folk and global sounds. Led by percussionist Yanchao Liu, together with the band featuring Bobi on bass and Millie Tang on keyboard.

Half Tones (4 – 26 June) group exhibition responding directly to screen printed political posters from the 1980s, originally created by a collective of European migrants. Their bright colours and bold statements tell stories of displacement, cultural exchange, and political turmoil.

Dans les arbres (4 June) presented by COMA & Nexus Arts, the critically acclaimed group from Norway & France perform in a rare Adelaide appearance. Intimate, spontaneous improvisations that create a singular sonic world. An essential night of adventurous listening.

Residual (10 June) a collaboration between Peter Knight & Dung Nguyen. Residual explores groundbreaking Vietnamese-Western fusion through extended techniques & electroacoustic composition, creating music that transcends boundaries

Make Music Day (20 June) Nexus Arts will be celebrating with a gig that showcases the best of contemporary intercultural collaboration and shows the vast talent of our community of artists, watch this space for program announcements.
