Following the release of their acclaimed, #1 Australian album ‘Straight Into The Sun’, The Cruel Sea are set to kick off their National Theatre tour next month, which will see the band performing the new album in full, as well as a second set of of Cruel Sea classics & carefully selected tunes. Joining them along the way will be very special guests, Lucie Thorne (*SA, VIC, NSW ACT, QLD), and Jez Mead (*WA shows).

LUCIE THORNE

Tasmanian-born, Melbourne-based artist and producer Lucie Thorne has been creating music for over 25 years, releasing more than a dozen albums and touring extensively across Australia, Europe, and North America. She has received praise for writing “some of the most beautiful songs you will hear” (The Age) and creating “exquisitely impressionistic… poetry in motion” (Rolling Stone).
In recent years, Lucie has also delved into painting, debuting her work in Melbourne in March 2024. Her second exhibition is currently on display in Canberra at the CIVIC ART BUREAU throughout this month.
Lucie recently edited a volume of her favourite poems written by her late father, renowned Tasmanian poet Tim Thorne; Tim Thorne – Greatest Hits – Poems 1968-2021 which was published by Puncher & Wattmann in 2024. Last year Lucie also produced a posthumous Sara Tindley album project, Golden Girl, which was released on Thorne’s imprint Little Secret Records in November 2024.

After years of travelling around this wide brown land folk blues fingerpicking troubadour Jez Mead has settled back in the west and is very pleased to say he will be supporting the Cruel Sea in their upcoming Perth shows.
There has been a close connection with Jez to the band with him playing and touring with James Cruickshank and Tex Perkins over the years.
