Sadie Humphrey Makes Adelaide Fringe Debut with The British Babes Songbook: A Sparkling Cabaret Celebrating Iconic British Women in Music

Adelaide-based vocalist and performer Sadie Humphrey makes her Adelaide Fringe debut with The British Babes Songbook, a high-energy, heartfelt celebration of the British women who have shaped pop music and society, from the swinging sixties to today.
Blending powerhouse vocals, sharp comedy, and clever musical mash-ups, the show takes audiences on a whirlwind tour through decades of iconic hits, cultural moments, and feminist milestones. From Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey to the Spice Girls, Adele and Charli XCX, the show explores how British female artists have reflected and reshaped ideas of independence, love, ambition, and identity.
With medleys, genre-hopping arrangements, and playful storytelling, Humphrey connects timeless pop anthems with relatable modern experiences, celebrating the joy, chaos, and resilience of womanhood all served with a healthy dose of British humour.

ABOUT THE CREATOR
Originally from South London and now firmly embedded in Adelaide’s music scene, Humphrey is a jazz-trained vocalist, songwriter, and vocal educator, holding Honours in Jazz Performance (Voice) from the Elder Conservatorium of Music. She is an active collaborator within Adelaide’s live music community and a passionate mentor to young vocalists.
“This show is about the women who gave us permission to be loud, emotional, ambitious and completely ourselves. But, it’s also me giving myself that same permission putting myself out there and telling my own story through these incredible voices. It’s funny, nostalgic, and a little bit unhinged… in the best way.” – Sadie Humphrey, Performer/ Producer
The British Babes Songbook is a nostalgic love letter to British pop and a fresh, contemporary cabaret for British expats, families, friendship groups, girls’ nights out, and the queer community; anyone who’s ever belted a power ballad, cried to a breakup song, or danced around the kitchen to a guilty pleasure hit.
Audiences can expect big voices, brilliant banter, and a celebration of the music that soundtracked generations from tea-time telly to dance-floor anthems.
