Review by Markus Hamence – The 60 Four: The Christmas Proms, Sunday 07 December 2025, Adelaide Town Hall, South Australia

What do you get when you blend two of my favourite things, Christmas and those spunky talented lads from The 60 Four?… The 60 Four’s 2025 Christmas Proms of course!

“I’ve said it before, and, I’ll keep on saying it, these guys are world class performers with major talent, coupled with charisma and showmanship…”

The 60 Four’s 2025 Christmas Proms took over Adelaide Town Hall last night with a festive sweep of nostalgia, season energy and polished showmanship that felt purpose-built to lift the city’s end-of-year mood. The minute the awesome foursome stepped into the spotlight, the tone was set – sharp silvery suits, tighter harmonies and that unmistakable retro swagger they’ve honed so well. Have they even got better over the last 12 months? I think so. Their stage craft is impeccable with the right amount of audience engagement and their jabs they give each other throughout the performance. Their approach to Christmas is refreshingly non-traditional: instead of leaning heavily into standard carols, they fused golden-era favourites with seasonal classics, stitching together a sound that bounced bauble-ly between sentimental warmth and spirited pop brilliance. Adelaide audiences know The 60 Four deliver a certain vintage gloss, but here it was layered with Christmas sparkle in a way that felt both comforting and unexpectedly cool. I’ve said it before, and, I’ll keep saying it, these guys are world class performers with major talent, coupled with charisma and showmanship. Read on though, I’ll explain more…

Ben Francis, Lachlan Williams, Jack Conroy and Finnegan Green had just flown in from a Perth gig at 11.30am (after waking up at 3.30am to catch the flight) raced to the venue for a matinee THEN delivered again at 7.30pm. You would forgive them if they appeared drained, exhausted and weary, but heck freakin’ no, they dug deep into their reservoir of energy and delivered, what I believe, and outstanding show, in fact based on the audience reaction it was not just my humble opinion.

The night had staying real staying power as the group’s sense of rhythm and theatrical instinct continue to shine and develop in strength. They treated each number like its own moment – not just a melody, but a mini performance. Choreography was crisp, dynamic and genuinely fun, echoing the vocal-group style of the ’60s without slipping into parody, again how they did it on minimal sleep ARGH – Total 100% professionalism. Vocally, they were on point throughout: neatly blended smooth harmonies, solid solo deliveries and that trademark bright tone that immediately signals the era they’re celebrating. I mean, seriously, these guys CAN sing. The Town Hall’s acoustics amplified it all beautifully, filling the room with a lush and lively sound that made even the quieter songs feel rich and warm. The audience response was electric; people were visibly leaning in, tapping along, fully swept up in the retro-festive fusion. I considered everyone in the audience a super-fan.

There were moments of Christmas hymns (Including Elton’s Step Into Christmas), Beatles grooves and Four Seasons arrangements and the group’s energy never dropped. They carried the room with confidence, humour and a genuine sense of connection. The night was designed for celebration rather than introspection – more sparkle than solemnity – and that direction suited them perfectly. Their strength lies in creating an atmosphere that feels open, warm and joyfully inclusive, and this Proms edition embraced that spirit from start to finish.

Run Rudolph Run, Blame It On The Boogie, Waterloo Sunset, I’m A Believer, It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year… the set-list was impressive and diverse – There was something for everyone. There was plenty of clapping along, singing along, foot-tapping and nodding.

The band were tight AF. Geez, Adelaide has some some major talent and those that were on stage last night backing the lads KNEW their stuff. From the horns to strings to percussion – Flawless. Credit and a bow to every musician.

As the rang out, the room carried that you-know-it post-show buzz – the chatter of ‘wasn’t that good’, smiles everywhere, people walking out lighter than they arrived (and straight to the meet-and-greet wall for their photos with the boys). The 60 Four have managed to take the classic Christmas concert and give it a contemporary Adelaide twist: retro enough to please the nostalgics, polished enough for the theatre crowd, and playful enough for families looking for a bit of holiday magic. Flanked by Adelaide Town Hall’s impressive piped organ as the back-drop, the 2025 Christmas Proms wasn’t just another festive event rolled out; it was a new tradition in the making (the boys are savvy enough to know this), it’s a show that leaves the city glowing and ready for the season ahead. Sign me up for their 2026 Proms thanks, I’ll be there with ‘bells’ on 😉
