Review by Monica Madon – Performance date: Saturday 4 January 2025, The Gov, Adelaide, SA
A Rockstar Returns Home…
Orianthi is an absolute powerhouse in the music world. Hailing from Adelaide, Australia, she’s a brilliant guitarist and mesmerising performer with a rockstar look that perfectly matches her raw talent. Despite achieving global success, playing with icons like Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper, and Carrie Underwood, many people still don’t know her name – and that’s something I’m determined to change by shouting out her brilliance with my following words. Her guitar skills are razor-sharp, with solos that can easily stand alongside legends like Slash and Carlos Santana. But it’s not just her playing that makes her special – it’s her role as a true trailblazer for young girls, proving that you can shred with power, hold your own in a male-dominated industry, and do it all with impeccable style.
A Captivating Performance
From the moment Orianthi stepped onto The Gov’s stage, the energy was electric. The setlist was a perfect blend of her classic hits and newer material, showcasing not only her mastery on the guitar but also her dynamic vocals. Tracks like “According To You” brought a nostalgic punch, while her soulful, blues-inspired numbers revealed a deeper, more introspective side. Each note was played with precision, and her solos were nothing short of gobsmacking AND breathtaking – intricate, emotive, and bursting with creativity. It was impossible not to be drawn deep into her world as she poured her heart and soul into every ROCKING moment.
Theo Panagaris: Family at the Forefront
What made the night even more special was Orianthi’s inclusion of her cousin, Theo Panagaris, as part of the opening act. Theo brought his own unique flair, warming up the crowd with a vibrant and heartfelt performance. His stand out performance was Slipknot’s Circle. It’s not every day that you see an artist of Orianthi’s caliber give the spotlight to family, but this gesture added an intimate touch to the evening and a bonus performance together. It was clear that her roots in Adelaide and her connection to her family remain a grounding force in her whirlwind career. Bravo!
A Role Model for Aspiring Musicians
Orianthi’s impact extends far beyond her undeniable musical talent. She’s an inspiration, especially to young women aspiring to break into the music industry. Her ability to carve out a space in a male-dominated field, while remaining unapologetically herself, is nothing short of extraordinary. Watching her perform live is a masterclass in confidence, skill, and artistry. She’s living proof that with passion, dedication, and authenticity, you can achieve greatness on your own terms.
The Adelaide Connection
For Adelaide locals, seeing Orianthi return to her hometown was a moment of pride. She carries her heritage with her, and her success story is a testament to the creative talent that Adelaide nurtures. The crowd’s energy mirrored the connection she has with her fans, many of whom have followed her journey from the city’s local music scene to the global stage.
Final Thoughts
Orianthi’s performance in Adelaide wasn’t just another music gig; it was an experience that celebrated family, artistry, and empowerment. She’s not just a guitarist or a singer – she’s a storyteller who weaves her journey into every riff and lyric. Next time she’s n town, don’t hesitate, grab your tickets. Her talent, charisma, and heartfelt connection with her audience make her a standout artist who deserves every accolade and more. I must also mention my favourite song of the night, First Time Blues stands out. The track kicks off with a blazing riff that delivers an electrifying burst of energy, perfectly matched by Orianthi’s incredible voice. Orianthi, you have a new fan for life! Ah, here for it.
