A Night with Matt Hale: Comedy Hypnotist Extraordinaire

Yup you better believe it, the mystical world of hypnotism! I had the pleasure of experiencing Matt Hale’s hypnotist show in Gluttony for the 2024 Adelaide Fringe, and let me tell you, it was an evening filled with laughter, astonishment, and a touch of curiosity. If you’re contemplating whether to catch one of his performances during the festival, sit tight as I recount my night of ‘mesmerizing’ fun.

Who is Matt Hale?

Before diving into the thick of it, a quick introduction might be in order. Matt Hale is a renowned comedy hypnotist who’s been dazzling audiences around the globe with his captivating performances and has been a staple at our Adelaide Fringe the last good few years. Unlike the traditional, often misconceived notion of hypnotism involving pocket watches and “you are getting sleepy” clichés, Matt brings a refreshingly modern twist to the art AND in a VERY high-energy format.

The Show Begins

The show kicked off in the venue buzzing with anticipation, the lights dimmed, and then there he was, the man of the hour, Matt Hale. His energy was infectious, effortlessly drawing the audience into his world with charm and wit. But it wasn’t just about the laughs; there was an air of intrigue as he explained the science and psychology behind hypnotism, debunking myths and setting the stage for a night of wholesome entertainment.

Excitedly, for me at least, the entire evening’s entertainment surrounded itself around classic 80’s bangers! And they came thick and fast. From Footloose, to Thriller, to The Final Countdown, to Living On A Prayer – All bases were covered. In fact, writing this now I have Simple Minds playing haha.

Audience Participation: The Heart of the Show

The highlight of Matt Hale’s show is undoubtedly the audience participation. Volunteers were called up on stage, a mix of eager and hesitant participants, all curious to experience hypnotism firsthand. What followed was a series of hilarious and sometimes baffling demonstrations of the power of suggestion. From convinced saxophone players to a male participant hilariously cheerleading to ‘Hey Mickey’, the variety of skits had the audience in stitches.

What stood out was Matt’s ethical approach to entertainment. He treated every participant with respect, ensuring they were comfortable and enjoyed the experience as much as the audience did.

The Verdict

Matt Hale’s hypnotist show is a rollercoaster ride of laughter, surprise, and genuine amazement. It’s not just a performance; it’s an colourful, interactive experience that blurs the line between spectator and participant. Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, there’s something truly captivating about seeing the mind’s untapped potential unfold on stage.

Would I Recommend It?

Absolutely! Whether you’re looking for a unique night out with friends, a date night that’s out of the ordinary, or simply curious about the world of hypnotism, Matt Hale’s show is a must-see. It’s family-friendly, too, so feel free to bring along the kiddos for a wholesome adventure into the power of suggestion.

In a world where digital entertainment often takes center stage, Matt Hale’s hypnotist show is a refreshing reminder of the magic of live performances. It’s an experience that leaves you pondering the wonders of the human mind, all while laughing your way through a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

So, if Matt Hale is performing a day or time where you may be looking for something cool to see, don’t hesitate. Grab your tickets, keep an open mind, and prepare for an unforgettable journey into the fascinating realm of hypnotism. Trust me, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!
