Review by Jeff Smith – Performance date: Thursday 21 November, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Adelaide, SA
8,000 fans descended on the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on a hot Thursday night for Sydney singer-songwriter Dean Lewis’s The Epilogue World Tour, his biggest South Australian show to date. There was a sense of occasion, anticipation and celebration for one of Australia’s most loved names in music. Dean rewarded the audience with a high-energy set that took his songs to a new level in a live setting.
CELEBRATION OF A GLOBAL ARTIST
The concert was a celebration of an artist at the top of his game and a testament to the strength of Australian music. At the heart of Dean’s performance was a rare, unspoken connection between the artist and his fans. Back on home soil after international success, fans held onto every note celebrating Dean’s rise as a global superstar and the one-month anniversary of his Epilogue album.
ARENA ANTHEMS AND BALLADS FOR THE SOUL
The incredible energy in the room was fuelled by Dean’s arena made anthems and emotive ballads that wrapped their arms around you.
Favourites including Empire, All I Ever Wanted, 7 Minutes, Waves and How Do I Say Goodbye were met with raw emotion and joy as Dean shared stories from his life with the adoring crowd.
The night was one epic singalong from the very first note.
INTIMACY AND GENUINE CONNECTION
Few arena shows achieve such an intimacy as a Dean Lewis concert. There is an unspoken connection between artist and audience. That connection was at its height when Dean popped up on a B-stage from the back of the arena floor giving fans an intimate set that brought those in back rows closer to the artist.
Dean expressed his gratitude for the moment and gifted fans with guitar picks and sharing the stage with a lucky fan who scored an acoustic guitar as the ultimate concert memento.
SHOWCASE OF NEW TALENT
The night opened with sets from Australian country artist Rachael Fahim and US Singer-songwriter Daniel Seavey. Both artists are naturally made for arenas, and you get the sense that both could be headlining their own arena shows in the years to come.
Fahim and Seavey made an encore appearance with Dean Lewis for an empowering rendition of Coldplay’s legendary Fix You. A special moment in the show.
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
This concert set a new benchmark in Dean’s career as a global superstar. Tonight was a reflection on that journey and a celebration of the moment. The joy in the room was infectious as Dean and fans made new memories that will remain well and truly beyond the concert.
Thanks for the memories, joy and a memorable concert.
