Review by Markus Hamence – Frankie Marcos Comedy: Can’t Be Franked – Performance date: Friday 20 March 2026. Majestic Roof Garden Hotel, Adelaide, South Australia.
“Winner of the 2024 San Francisco International Comedy Competition, Frankie Marcos is back in Australia after nearly a year of shows in America. Mexican and Filipino, Frankie brings a unique perspective as he talks about ADHD, culture, and the chaos of his life on and off stage. Blending heartfelt moments with razor-sharp jokes and crowd work, he delivers a beautiful tornado of stories and punchlines that’ll leave you laughing, relating, and maybe even wanting to adopt him. ‘Can’t Be Franked’ is an hour you won’t forget.” (Online Show Bio)
Let me get Frank…

Frankie Marcos doesn’t so much perform stand-up as he detonates it and NOTHING it seems is ‘off limits’ (the way COMEDY should be) piece by piece, story by story – until the whole room is caught somewhere between laughter and disbelief. Can’t Be Franked arrives at Adelaide Fringe with a loose-limbed confidence that feels completely unmanufactured, and that’s exactly its power.
Marcos leans into the beautifully unfiltered corners of his life – cultural identity, relationships, mental spirals and everything in between – pulling threads that could easily unravel, yet somehow stitch together into something sharp, honest and wildly funny. There’s no safety net here, just instinct, timing and a willingness to go wherever the moment leads. And it leads far and wide… ‘Can’t be f*cked’ is a particularly funny moment as is his ‘special’ friendship with the gays 😉
“It doesn’t sit still. It pivots, it stretches, it snaps back…”

What makes this show land is its sense of movement. It doesn’t sit still. It pivots, it stretches, it snaps back. One second you’re in a deeply personal anecdote that feels almost intimate, the next you’re blindsided by a punchline that cuts through with precision. Marcos has that rare ability to let a joke breathe just long enough before flipping it on its head.
The crowd becomes part of the rhythm too. There’s a constant awareness of the room – glances, improvised asides, quick-fire interactions – that keep everything feeling immediate and alive. It’s not about control, it’s about connection and Marcos knows exactly how to keep that current running.
Marcos is a master at his game. He has studied, researched and lived it all. This all makes him undeniably a comedy force. He is.
There’s also a rawness here that hits deeper than expected. Beneath the chaos and quick wit sits a performer who isn’t afraid to show the mess behind the humour. It adds weight to the laughs, giving the show a pulse that sticks long after the final beat.
“This is comedy that doesn’t ask permission – it just goes there, and takes you with it. Then makes you feel OK with it. It’s f*cking comedy afterall, and F*CK we need to laugh more than ever right now..”

Adelaide Festival is a festival packed with slick formats and neatly packaged sets, Can’t Be Franked stands out for its refusal to be boxed in. It’s unpredictable, a little reckless and completely engaging.
Wrap-up: Frankie Marcos delivers a set that feels lived-in rather than rehearsed – fast, fearless and charged with real personality. This is comedy that doesn’t ask permission – it just goes there, and takes you with it. Then makes you feel OK with it. It’s f*cking comedy afterall, and F*CK we need to laugh more than ever right now.
