Review by Markus Hamence – Elixir Revived – Performance date: Wednesday 04 March 2026. Fool’s Paradise, Adelaide, South Australia.
This is Cirque du Soleil meets Magic Mike. Sexy, bold and unmissable.
Elixir Revived is a wild, post-apocalyptic circus comedy packed with jaw-dropping stunts, irreverent humour, and world-class acrobatics.
Four eccentric scientists attempt to create the Elixir of life, and are forced to test the concoctions on themselves. Chaos and Mayhem break loose in the Laboratory, and what follows is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud spectacle packed with gravity-defying acrobatics, physical comedy, and more than a touch of cheek.
Critics have praised the show’s exceptional mix of humour and daring circus skills. Elixir Revived showcases both the beauty and the limits of the human body.
But, here’s MY take…

Head First Acrobats have carved out a reputation at the Adelaide Fringe for delivering circus that’s bold, cheeky and physically astonishing AND a staple for the programme, ‘Elixir Revived’ arrives like a shot of adrenaline straight to the festival’s late-night crowd. Part circus spectacle, part comedy riot, part sexy, and part outrageous boys-night-out energy, this show doesn’t tiptoe onto the stage – it explodes onto it… ALL over it.
The premise is gloriously absurd. Four eccentric scientists attempt to create the mythical elixir of life, only to end up testing their questionable concoctions on themselves. What follows is total laboratory chaos – a fast-paced collision of gravity-defying acrobatics, physical comedy and mischievous audience-teasing antics. These lads have done their training.
The minute the lights hit the stage, the performers bring a level of athleticism that borders on superhuman. Towering hand-to-hand balances, daring aerial work and precision acrobatics unfold with the kind of fearless confidence that has the audience simultaneously gasping and laughing. The troupe’s physical control is extraordinary, inhuman even, pushing the limits of the mortal body with routines that are both dangerous and dazzling and unbelievable.

Now, what truly makes Elixir Revived land in our laps of us Fringe audiences is its sense of play. The show leans boldly and fully into its own ridiculousness – muscles flex, experiments go wrong, bulges thrust, and the comedy is knowingly cheeky, like VERY cheeky (But the diverse troupe also does a kids show, true). It’s the sort of performance that refuses to take itself too seriously while still delivering circus skills of an incredibly high calibre. The performers know exactly how to work a crowd ad the room, building that electric late-night Fringe atmosphere where laughter, applause and disbelief bounce and dance around the room. There is eye contact, with ‘knowing’ eye winks, and full-blown ‘astonished’ engagement.
Visually, the production has a slick, high-energy aesthetic. Moody lighting, (very) pumping music and the tight proximity of the venue create a club-like intensity that amplifies every stunt and every gag. One moment you’re watching a jaw-dropping display of strength and balance; the next, you’re laughing at the chaotic and stupid consequences of yet another failed ‘experiment’,
Head First Acrobats clearly understand their audience. Elixir Revived is circus with swagger and sex appeal – athletic, outrageous and unapologetically fun. It’s the kind of show that captures the wild spirit of the Adelaide Fringe: daring, a little bit (a lot be) naughty, and guaranteed to send the crowd out into the night buzzing with energy.
For anyone chasing a Fringe experience that mixes jaw-dropping acrobatics with laugh-out-loud silliness, Elixir Revived is exactly the potion you want to drink. And ‘drink it up’ you will.
