March 2, 2025

Review by Markus Hamence – Performance date: Saturday 01 March 2025, Garden Of Unearthly Delights, Adelaide, South Australia

’BITE’ is a transgressive, sex-positive cabaret that debuted at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe Festival. Presented by GRIT Productions, this show offers a daring blend of cabaret, circus, and burlesque, celebrating diverse sexualities and queerness.

Held in Garden of Unearthly Delights’ Vagabond venue in Rundle Park. Bite is a show that will have you champing at the bit. Sexy, fun and bold, it takes you on a frivolous adventure where the devil may care!

Performance and Atmosphere

Hosted by the charismatic Mistress of Chaos, Adelaide’s own, Alex De Porteous, ‘BITE’ immerses the audience in a world reminiscent of European erotic arthouse. Alex is a force. Her stage presence is undeniable and a voice that soars – a De Porteous gig is always fought with flirt, banter, cheekiness AND talent. The performers, including co-creators Holly X and the sex-kitten come panther, Nicolás Mena (also lead choreographer), deliver acts ranging from aerial routines with fire torches to innovative pole-dancing where the pole swings over the audience. The show features live reinterpretations of classics like Cole Porter’s ‘Too Darn Hot’ and Rod McKuen’s english version of ‘If You You Go Away’ alongside contemporary hits, all enhanced by pumping exquisite sound design that fills the space.
