Wanita – Australia’s Queen of Honkytonk Is Back And She’s Red Hot!

Wanita is back with a new single, and a new album on the way.

Red Hot Cookin’ Momma, the first single taken from Wanita’s upcoming album Facets, is out now via Gyrostream, and the fiery queen has some things to say about the song:

“Hello! ‘I’m Wanita’. And ‘ I’m red-headed crazy and mean!’, especially towards extremely foolish young floozies that may be thinking of sneaking around my back door when my hubby’s supposed to be home alone!

So, take this song as a ‘ not so gentle’ and theatrical warning to keep your mitts off my man! Or…. face this ” Red Hot Cookin’ Momma” head on! And if you do happen to listen to the words of my song closely….Do so at your own risk!”

With the album Facets set for release in early 2025, fans of Wanita will get to hear some of her new songs live when she takes to the stage at Gympie Music Muster on August 25. Be sure not to miss her.

ABOUT WANITA

This renegade redhead – a rough-talking, hard-drinking singer / songwriter – views life through an autistic lens and is committed to the sound and stars of a bygone era in Country Music. In her own words, “I’m in the wrong era and so is the music I play.” Despite her induction into the Australian Country Music ‘Hands of Fame’ in 2023,

Described by US Country music legend Billy Yates in Nashville’s famed Beaird Recording Studio as “… so consistently good”, Wanita’s voice is respected around the world. She’s toured in Europe and owned the UK’s highest selling Country Music import album of the year in 2013. She’s even been the subject of a multi-award-winning documentary film (I’m Wanita), which in 2022 won ‘Best Music Documentary’ at both the London and Sydney Film Festivals among other awards from Nashville, Calgary and New Orleans. The film also won ‘Best Feature Documentary’ at the AIDC Awards.

With three albums already released and her latest work titled ‘Facets’, to be launched in February 2025, Wanita is building a body of work that stands alone in this genre within her homeland.

Wanita has led a turbulent life. She’s renowned as much for her monumental stage presence, exceptional vocal capacity, and her deep connection with traditional Country music, as she is her torrid mood swings. The latter are inevitably brought on by those who display laziness, incompetence, racism, prejudice, or dishonesty, as Wanita also genuinely cares about people.

This magnificent red-haired, red-lipped, real, and raw woman, brings new, original Honky Tonk music to our lives complete with a story of triumph over the struggle of our everyday lives. This is Wanita.
