The Pleasures Release New Single ‘Was It Something I Said’

Was It Something I Said? is the brand-new single from duo-fronted band The Pleasures. The release comes ahead of the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, Enemy Of My Enemy (out August 15, 2025 via UberSavvy Music/MGM). Preorder/Presave album HERE.

‘Was It Something I Said’ ushers in an evolution in The Pleasures’ sound with bigger, bolder, and more riff-laden moments. Essentially, it’s a country duet seen through a 90s alt-rock lens – with discernible shades of Sheryl Crow and even Tom Petty in its mid-tempo swagger, instantly catchy guitar hooks and wailing Hammond organ.

“It’s a conversation of sorts” explains co-frontperson Lachlan Bryan, who started the band in 2022 with Catherine Britt. “It’s two ex-lovers that are still trying to prove something. They’re throwing so much shade and sass each other’s way that you just know they’re meant to be together. It’s a concept many of us are familiar with”.

You can sing like an angel/lie like a dog
You were so unfaithful but I still got off
We were held together, by a needle and thread
Where you going now honey? Was it something I Said?

“Catherine and I sat down and wrote this one morning at our friend Mez’s dining room table in Nashville”, Lachlan continues. “The whole house is filled with great songs – many of them buried in his huge vinyl collection, but others (like this one) hanging around in the ether just waiting to be collected. There’s a lot of things to catch your eye – by the window there’s a real old 1950s hairdresser’s styling chair – complete with the perm-helmet, and when you look across to the old kitchen all the pots and pans and utensils hang above a beautiful handmade island-bench. The floorboards creak when we come home late after a show and the air is always thick with smoke and whiskey and coffee and all sorts of homegrown and homemade things. It’s a magical place – a creative wonderland of sorts – and to write this all we really had to do was be there for a little while”.

Lachlan Bryan and Catherine Britt have developed a unique writing and performing chemistry that they never saw coming. It’s a union that, along with a killer rhythm section of Brad Bergen and Damian Cafarella, produced acclaimed debut album The Beginning of the End and led the group on a two-year odyssey around Australia and the world for festivals, supports and headline shows on three continents – including official showcases at FOLK ALLIANCE INTERNATIONAL and AMERICANAFEST 2024, Riverboats Music Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Out on the Weekend, Gympie Muster, Dashville Skyline, Nannup Music Festival, Maverick Festival (UK) and Shrewsbury Folk Festival (UK).

In fact, The Pleasures have been teasing us with album #2 for quite a while. In late 2024 they released singles Where The Money Goes and Let’s Go Again (watch that one here), both of which had become staples of their live set with scorching recent performances at this year’s Riverboats and Nannup Music Festivals.

Following the release of the new album they will continue their travels on an album tour from October in Australia and November in Scandinavia before returning to the UK during the Northern winter, followed by more Australian shows. Stay tuned for dates.
