SoSo release debut album So Much For Second Chances
Album tour continues tonight with SOLD OUT show in Adelaide
Backed by a rapidly growing base of dedicated fans, and their unique approach to music marketing, Sydney underdogs SoSo are undeniable. Their debut album So Much For Second Chances is out today, and soundtracks the journey that has led them here – from reflecting on the nostalgia of childhood and the parts of life that make up one’s self, to relationships with family, friends, lovers, the music industry and the world around us. Stream So Much For Second Chances HERE and order the album HERE.

Pop-punk and alt-rock filter through the record, with singles ‘Oxytocin’, ‘MESSED UP’, ‘Candy Mouth’, ‘Chasing Cars’ and ‘Something More’ all showcasing the band’s ability to move through genre and concept while remaining unmistakably SoSo. Today, the focus shifts to ‘Let it be.’ – a song described by frontman Rhys de Burgh as “by far the heaviest song that SoSo has ever written.” ‘Let it be.’ was added to Spotify’s New Music Friday AU/NZ on release.
“It’s definitely our drummer Doy’s favourite song to play live. We found some really interesting samples and synths to add to this one, particularly in the second verse, where we’ve got this edited and heavily affected saxophone sample underneath, which stands out if you listen carefully.
Lyrically, it’s about how so many people live their whole lives being comfortable in mediocrity, never chasing their dreams or a goal that would result in a sense of fulfilment. So once they’re older, and life has passed them by, they create all these reasons within their mind to help them cope with the fact that they’ve never fulfilled their potential, all these excuses for why they’ve failed to become who they could have been, had they made a conscious decision to live true to who they are.”
SoSo have been pushing towards and ambitious yet data-backed goal of cracking the ARIA charts, aiming to secure the #1 spot. As an independent band, achieving that goal will take a village, and the band have been calling upon their fiercely loyal fanbase to help them get there, with thousands of album pre-orders already under their belt – “we’ve only got a shot at this thanks to fans like you guys who support us so much.”
With the support of a burgeoning fanbase both at home and abroad, and with millions of streams and multiple sold out shows to their name, SoSo have been making waves on their own terms. Rhys took matters into his own hands last year, opting to leave his previous nine-to-five to focus full time on the band and chase the dream. Setting out to rewrite the playbook on independent artist marketing, he poured hours of his time into understanding how to best reach future fans and engage SoSo’s existing supporters, and in the year since, has grown the band’s mailing list to over 10,000 Australian subscribers.
Working with acclaimed producer Stevie Knight (Yours Truly / Stand Atlantic / Between You & Me), So Much For Second Chances sees the band evolve their songwriting and sound, embracing melodic pop vocal hooks and incorporating samples, synths and heavier production. At its core though, the record is still true to SoSo – ambitious, playful, and unmistakably their own.
