+ TOURING EAST COAST THIS MONTH
“Shows by The Stems are reverential experiences, And for good reason. The band’s membership is scattered over two coasts of Australia and gigs don’t occur often. When they do, you know they’re going to be something worth bottling. What’s the special sauce? It’s Dom Mariani’s timeless pop songs being delivered by top-shelf players who have a chemistry that can only come from most of them playing together for years.” I-94 BAR
Fresh from last year’s sold-out 40th anniversary 2024 tour of Australia and Europe, and following on from the release of their much-loved single ‘Falling from the Sky”, West Australian garage rock icons The Stems have today released their ‘brand new’ single, ‘Deep Freeze’, in the lead up to their much-anticipated East Coast Tour and festival appearance at The Gum Ball this month.

‘Deep Freeze’ will be the second single from the band’s forthcoming album and is classic Stems’ Freakbeat / R&B stomp with all the classic hallmarks which has made them one of the most iconic bands of the genre.

The single, out today via Cheersquad Records and Tapes, is available on all streaming platforms, as well as on limited edition 7″ vinyl in translucent blue (100 copies), translucent teal (100 copies), and black.
Don’t miss The Stems on their ‘Deep Freeze’ East Coast tour this month.

ABOUT THE STEMS
The Stems attained their own legendary status in the Australian and International music scene – roaring out of Perth with a sound and style that definitively captured the spirit and enthusiasm of sixties garage music – lurching fuzz-tone guitars, brooding organ, solid gold garage-punk, and primo power pop! They not only created a distinctive sonic identity but
also penned unforgettable songs while delivering electrifying live performances.
In the late ’80s, The Stems achieved acclaim with a series of singles and EPs and the timeless ‘At First Sight, Violet are Blue’ LP in 1987. The group disbanded in late 1987 and made a significant comeback in 2003, playing to sold-out crowds nationwide. Since then, they have continued to tour regularly in front of audiences across Australia, Europe, Japan, and the United States.
The Stems played a stellar and electrifying show of their greatest hits along with a few covers over a 2 hour period which included two encores and 22 songs. This eclectic and nostalgic collection of songs highlighted their diversity and versatility of rock’n’roll music consisting of psychedelic, fuzz, funk, power pop, garage rock that has a heavily influenced 60s & 70s sound and guitar driven rock. A very distinctive and unique brand of music that remains iconic, hip, and timeless.”
AUSTRALIAN MUSICIAN – 2024
“The Stems took to the stage and what a ninety minutes it was. Simply elite! The calibre of their back catalogue is not a matter of what they are playing but what they are leaving out. From a forty year career they do have an abundance of riches to choose from. The Stems are Dom Mariani, Dave Shaw, Julian Matthews and Ash Naylor. No fancy stage production, just killer songs right from the get go…”
