Solrise Records / Virgin Music Group’s Australian-born, Nashville-based country mainstay Morgan Evans rings in the holiday season his own way today with a cover of “How To Make Gravy,” out now. Listen HERE.

Originally written and performed by 17x ARIA Award winner Paul Kelly“How to Make Gravy” has become an Australian Christmas classic. Told from the perspective of an inmate named Joe calling home to his brother Dan ahead of the holidays, it’s a moving story about family that is especially poignant for those absent from their hometowns at Christmas.

“Recording ‘How To Make Gravy’ came with a weight and responsibility. It’s one of the greatest songs ever written,” Morgan shares. “It’s not your typical Christmas song, but it’s always hit me right in the guts. Anyone who’s ever spent Christmas away from home knows that feeling. I wanted to make a version in 2025 that honors Paul Kelly’s original, but brings a little country soul, texture and the emotion that comes with that. What a song. Means a lot to release my own version. Have a Merry Christmas!”

“How to Make Gravy” follows the success of Evans’ first new single in over two years, “Beer Back Home” – the first taste of his forthcoming sophomore album Steel Town, due out March 20, 2026. Pre-add / pre-save HERE.

Next month, Evans will continue his globe-trekking “Beer Back Home” pop up shows, started in October in Newcastle, with a one-night-only takeover at Old Mates Pub in New York City on December 3.

Locally, Morgan leads the lineup on Meatstock 2026, the world’s best barbecue and country music event.   Meatstock 2026 will take over Toowoomba (April 10-11) and Gippsland (April 17-18) serving up two jam packed weekends of live music and smoky meats!  This is in addition to his starring role on the Howlin Country lineup.

ABOUT MORGAN EVANS

Beneath the globally appealing country sound Morgan Evans is known for runs the unmistakable influence of his coastal Australian roots. Raised by blue-collar parents on a few acres of land along Australia’s east coast, he carries that grounding with him wherever his music goes.

It’s been two years since he last released music. Evans spent much of that time in his hometown of Newcastle, the steel city where he first fell in love with songwriting. That period of reflection tapped a deep vein of creativity, ultimately bringing him back to Nashville with a renewed passion for crafting songs that resonate on a global scale. Today, his music has been streamed over one billion times worldwide, a testament to the universal connection he’s built with fans.

His 2018 debut album, Things That We Drink To, catapulted Evans into international acclaim, delivering his first-ever country radio #1 with the Platinum-certified “Kiss Somebody” and the Gold-certified fan favorite “Day Drunk,” while drawing praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, PEOPLE, and more. In 2022, he headlined Australia’s biggest country music festival, CMC Rocks, and has toured extensively across North America and Europe.

Following two more EPs, Evans hit a new career high with the release of the raw and viral “Over For You.” The track marked a cathartic reset and culminated in two sold-out nights at the iconic Sydney Opera House, just down the road from his hometown—a milestone captured on his 17-song Live at the Sydney Opera House album.

Evans is now preparing to launch his next chapter with his hotly anticipated sophomore studio album, Steel Town, set for release on March 20, 2026.
