Magpie Diaries drop new single ‘Land For Sale’ ahead of their second album, ‘Some Kind of View’
Magpie Diaries return with Land For Sale, the fifth single taken from their upcoming album Some Kind of View (to be released October 31, 2025).
Inspired by living and working between one of the fastest growing urban sprawl areas in Australia, the song— out today —takes a shot at the Real Estate industry and how it operates in the 21st century. “Nothing but a marketing game, targeting humans through a sense of desire and emotional manipulation. Another one of life’s great contradictions…Not-actually-real estate, they should call it.”
“When you break it all down, many of these competing, well-dressed sales gurus are pretty much selling land in the same manipulative ways to how the porn industry sells the idea of love and connection. It’s in the art of marketing.”, says Magpie.
“Anyhow, the problem is not a housing shortage, it’s the fact that capitalism has turned homes into a commodity. Too many people own too many houses and young people will never be able to afford a home, unless of course it’s through generational wealth. Hang around at home and wait for your folks to pass on, or head out and conveniently pay off other people’s exorbitant mortgages. It’s all a bit of a sad fact, particularly when you consider how many towns lay dormant in the cold dark winter, through AirBnB, communities choked for living space. There are no homes available, because of someone’s grand business plan.
Perhaps politicians should vote for there to be a limit on how many houses one person can own?
They won’t because they are the worst offenders, making bank of this development plague that is nothing but grey box clover covering our beautiful, fertile land.”
