La Descarga Is Australia’s tropical music powerhouse
Fusing Afro-Latin and Caribbean rhythms like cumbia,

La Descarga is Australia’s tropical music powerhouse – a fearless outburst of tropicality that tickles your brain on the dance spot. Fusing Afro-Latin and Caribbean rhythms like cumbia, salsa and champeta with dub, funk, highlife, rock and electronic grooves, the band crafts an explosive, genre-bending sound driven by vibrant percussion, horns, guitar and flutes. Their performances bring a burst of tropical carnaval energy, turning stages into vibrant celebrations of rhythm, joy and cultural fusion.
Their debut album Fiesta de Corazón — featuring over 30 artists from five continents — was named PBS FM’s Feature Album, with the track Yuca Cassava emerging as a quirky tropical party hit. Celebrating the many names of the mighty root veg (yuca, cassava, mandioca), the track taps into the playful global “you say potato, I say patata” spirit with catchy hooks and Afro-Colombian grooves. Now remixed by ESWB as the Too Turbo Mix, it spins into a jungle-house hit — dialing up the rhythm and inviting dancers into a whole new dimension of the fiesta.
