KōDEM – Newcastle Progressive Rockers Debut Single, Tattooed Sin

Australia’s ever growing, premiere rock label, XMusic is thrilled to welcome Newcastle’s KōDEM to the roster.

The progressive rockers blend intensity, atmosphere and raw emotion seamlessly. With echoes of Tool, The Tea Party and A Perfect Circle, their sound is both intricate and crushingly powerful. After two years of commanding live shows, KōDEM have unleashed their debut single that will cement their place in the next wave of progressive rock.

Label CEO Tim McLean-Smith says of the band signing, “XMusic are excited to have KōDEM on the label for their debut release as they add a different dimension to the XMusic family. Kodem’s live energy will blow you away and their new single Tattooed Sin is a great introduction to the music that is yet to come.”

The bands first release, Tattooed Sin, is about the struggle between vulnerability and shame, and the desire to be truly seen for who we are. It speaks to the importance of doubt, not as weakness, but as the pathway to honesty and growth while also capturing the pain of being treated as someone else’s mistake or guilty secret.

The “tattooed sin” becomes a powerful metaphor for feeling permanent yet unwanted, marked by a connection that cannot be erased but is never fully embraced. At its heart, the song is about longing for closeness, battling inner emptiness, and rejecting the labels and judgments that keep us hollow.
