ARIA Hall-of-Famer Kasey Chambers has dropped a brand new single and video today –The Divorce Song, featuring Shane Nicholson, lifted from her recent 13th album, Backbone.

The Divorce Song is classic Chambers and Nicholson, who collaborated on 2 highly acclaimed albums together while they were married, including the ARIA No.1 and US Americana Award nominated Rattlin’ Bones.

Kasey explains, “Writing ‘The Divorce Song’ with my ex-husband Shane Nicholson and  then recording it together as a duet is one of my favourite musical moments of my career and even more, one of my proudest family moments.  Honestly….when our marriage ended I never thought Shane and I would ever write another song together again but I guess if you work hard enough on making a divorce really work, then anything can happen.”

Shane adds, “For a long while, writing and recording together again wasn’t looking likely for Kasey and I, and ‘The Divorce Song’ seems like the perfect way to revisit what we always did best together. Only an hour to put down on paper, but in reality it took us 10 years to write this song. Because it’s a song that couldn’t be written until it was fully lived. And I’m proud of that, and us.”

The video for The Divorce Song was shot on the Central Coast and was filmed and edited by Gabe Coggan.

Kasey Chambers’ extensive, 30-date Backbone album tour will commence next Thursday, January 23 at Tamworth Town Hall, with special guest Jenny Mitchell.  It presents an opportunity for fans to join Kasey as she showcases new material from Backbone for the first time, along with her much loved hits.  The tour comes off the back of being named by The Australian as 2024’s Best Theatre Concert, described by Andrew McMillen as “An effortlessly masterly performance by an artist who has an obscenely rare ability to tap into deeply felt emotions amid a whirlwind of freakish vocal notes – and then undercut the whole thing with a shrug and perhaps some toilet humour.”

Confirming too that Australia’s love affair with Kasey continues more than 25 years since her first album release The Captain, her new album Backbone debuting recently at #1 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart, #1 on ARIA Country Albums Chart and #3 on the ARIA Albums Chart!

Last year, Kasey released her book Just Don’t Be A Dickhead (Hardie Grant Books), the material informing and inspiring the Backbone album.
