A Gritty, Poetic Reckoning with a Generation’s Inherited Silence & Release date for his new Album ‘Modern Mythologies’
Single Out August 29th on all digital platforms

While searching for answers on a call with a mystic healer, David Keenan was told that his bedroom was situated on top of a stream of bad or ‘Poison Water’, the phrase stuck.
Acclaimed Irish songwriter and poet David Keenan returns with his striking new single “Poison Water”, a searing and redemptive reflection on adolescence, identity, and survival in post-conflict Ireland.
Rooted in his hometown of Dundalk, a border town still shadowed by the emotional residue of The Troubles. Poison Water confronts the personal and societal void left in the wake of peace. Keenan offers a raw portrait of growing up in the early 2000s: a time when outward calm masked inward confusion, and many, like him, were drawn to role models forged in fire but flawed by toxicity.
“Growing up in Dundalk in the 2000’s – Keenan says, There was a culture of silence, dissident elements, and the allure of criminality. Repressed male anger was rife, you tended to look for role models in the wrong places but the things that saved me were Music and Poetry”
Anchored by the poignant lyric “Turn my feelings into poems, then I don’t feel so alone,” the track captures the heart of Keenan’s evolution, not only as a songwriter but as a man on a journey of recovery. It’s a vulnerable but empowered declaration of creative salvation; a hymn for those who felt unseen, and a mirror for those still walking that line between collapse and catharsis.
Poison Water is another taste of a wider body of work that Keenan has quietly been building, work that draws from his personal journey through confusion, addiction, and emotional dislocation to a place of clarity, deeper meaning and myth-making.
While further details of his new album ‘Modern Mythologies’ remain under wraps for now, Keenan hints at the larger release on the horizon:
“I’m left with this new album, due out in November, an anthology of songs, stories and people. Musically and lyrically it is most inspired thing I’ve done”

With his unmistakable voice, literary lyricism, and uncompromising honesty, David Keenan once again proves why he’s one of Ireland’s most compelling modern troubadours.
