# Charlotte Le Lievre turns grief into Americana on Grief Knows No Borders **New Music** — On Your Markus **Published:** 30 October 2026 **Author:** Markus Hamence **Source:** https://onyourmarkus.au/new-music-releases/charlotte-le-lievre/ Charlotte Le Lievre announces Grief Knows No Borders, her sophomore album due 12 February 2027 via Cheatin Hearts Records, with the title track premiering now as a slow-burning Americana ballad exploring loss and the realisation that grief becomes part of us rather than something to outrun. Built around pedal steel, mandolin and guitar, the track moves with quiet momentum before crescendoing into raw catharsis, setting the tone for an album born from Le Lievre's experience of losing her mother to cancer and written during the pandemic years as a means of processing that grief. --- **Charlotte Le Lievre** announces ***Grief Knows No Borders***, her forthcoming sophomore album **due 12 February 2027 via Cheatin Hearts Records**and shares the title track -  a slow-burning Americana ballad about trying to outrun grief, only to discover that it travels along with us. ![Person in olive jacket and dark trousers standing on rocky outcrop with industrial mining infrastructure visible behind.](https://media.onyourmarkus.au/admin/2026/10/26741a29-1bb9-4585-a402-505516abac89.jpg) Built around the gentle interplay of pedal steel, mandolin and guitar, the song moves with the quiet momentum of a long road. The restraint eventually gives way to a powerful final crescendo, with a heavy guitar solo and mandolin tremolo pushing the track into something raw and cathartic. The song sets the tone for an album born from Le Lievre’s experience of losing her mum to cancer. "Grief Knows No Borders" explores the messy terrain of life and loss - the heartbreak, the unexpected beauty and the realisation that grief doesn't disappear. It becomes a part of us, changing and growing as we do. “After mum passed away, I quit my job as a community legal centre lawyer and went travelling. I felt completely unanchored and travelling became a coping mechanism, until the pandemic stopped me in my tracks. It was then I was forced to confront the pain of losing mum and songwriting became my means of processing it”. Written during the pandemic years, the album is a cathartic and personal exploration of Charlotte’s grief journey. It is also a love letter to the diversity of country music. Charlotte draws upon different currents of country music - honkytonk, Americana, bluegrass - to share her story. Produced by Charlotte Le Lievre and Jas Bell, the single was recorded live at Melbourne’s Union Street Studio by Roger Bergodaz (Tex Perkins, Neil Murray, Freya Josephine Hollick). The recording features Luke Byrnes (electric guitar), Jonothan Brown (bass), Patrick Wilson (drums), Jas Bell (pedal steel) and Justin Vilchez (mandolin). Personal but universal, *Grief Knows No Borders* is ultimately a rallying cry for connection - a reminder that while grief knows no borders, neither does the human need to find each other in it.
