Charlotte Le Lievre Releases New Single ‘Tamworth Lights’

CHARLOTTE LE LIEVRE SHARES MOVING NEW SINGLE “TAMWORTH LIGHTS” – FIRST TASTE OF UPCOMING SOPHOMORE ALBUM GRIEF KNOWS NO BORDERS

SINGLE OUT NOW

Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Charlotte Le Lievre returns today with Tamworth Lights, a deeply personal and moving new single. Following on from the success of her debut album, Songs from the Barrier Line – which was nominated for Contemporary Folk Album of the Year at the Australian Folk Music Awards and Best Country Work at the Music Victoria Awards – Tamworth Lightsmarks the first release from Charlotte’s forthcoming sophomore album, Grief Knows No Borders, due in Spring 2026.

Written from the perspective of someone who has just learned their mother is nearing the end of her life, the song traces the emotional journey of boarding a flight home — uncertain whether they will make it in time for one last goodbye.

With lilting vocals, soaring pedal steel, and rich three-part harmonies, Tamworth Lights blends personal grief with the universal experience of loss, capturing the fragile hope and deep sorrow that come with facing a loved one’s final moments. The emotion simmers just below the surface, supported by thoughtful arrangements that give the song space to breathe and the lyrics room to land.

Written during the isolation of the 2021 COVID lockdown, the song became a vital outlet for Charlotte to process the grief of losing her mum — and to offer listeners a moment of connection and shared vulnerability.

“This song tells my story. But from playing it live, I realised that a lot of people have gone through a similar experience,” Charlotte says. “Grief is universal, yet there’s a societal expectation that it should be hidden, locked away, individualised. In writing this song I wanted to shake up that paradigm and create a space of authentic connection — where we can feel less alone in our grief.”

Produced by Le Lievre and longtime collaborator Jas Bell, the track features a stellar lineup of acclaimed Australian musicians, including Patrick Wilson (Hana & Jessie Lee’s Bad Habits), Justin Vilchez (The High Street Drifters), Luke Byrnes (Double Dole Stringband), and Jonothan Brown.

Recorded live at Union Street Studio in Melbourne by Roger Bergodaz (Tex Perkins, Neil Murray, Freya Josephine Hollick) and mastered by Adam Dempsey (Angie McMahon, Grace Cummings, Jeff Lang), the recording preserves the raw, unfiltered emotion of the performance.

“It was beautiful recording this song live with the band and trying to capture the raw emotional hills and valleys that are embedded within it,” Charlotte reflects.

Tamworth Lights is available now on all streaming platforms and offers a powerful glimpse into Le Lievre’s upcoming album, Grief Knows No Borders — a body of work poised to resonate deeply with audiences navigating the universal, yet often private, terrain of loss.

Tamworth Lights is out now on all streaming platforms.
