Amanda Rheaume, recent recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal as nominated by the Métis Nation of Ontario, has released her new album The Truth We Hold. The album, rooted in Métis stories from across the homelands, is a work of preservation and celebration that equally honors struggle and joy, resilience and resistance.

To mark the release, Rheaume offers a video for “Unforgettable” that encapsulates the spirit and purpose of her newest project. “The video is a celebration of Métis identity, resilience, and kinship,” says Rheaume. “It affirms a simple yet profound truth: we exist, and we are beautiful. Labeled the ‘forgotten people,’ our voices were pushed into the margins. This video celebrates how our voices can, and do, rise together. ” The primarily Métis team behind the new clip includes Indigital Media (Edmonton), Chris Gaudry (Winnipeg) and director Denise Darling (Winnipeg).

Produced by Colin Linden and recorded at Jukasa Studios and in Nashville, Rheaume’s new album is a satisfying blend of classic rootsy twang with folkier traditional elements. The addition of accordion and the lively Métis fiddle of Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk suffuse the collection with a magical energy, its sound grounded in Métis musical history. Rheaume recently made news for her decision to cancel her Kennedy Centre debut, originally booked for April, 2025. The decision sparked widespread conversation and international coverage, with resounding support for Rheaume’s position. This spring, Rheaume will tour her new album with select shows in western Canada and Ontario, followed by a trip to Osaka, Japan to perform at World Expo 2025. Tickets and show details here.
