Alison Moyet Shares The Newly-Reworked Version Of ‘Filigree’

The build up to the October 4th release of Alison Moyet’s reworked career retrospective ‘Key’ has demonstrated a continuing fan devotion for an artist who has achieved two #1 albums, six Top 10 singles, three BRIT Awards and a Grammy nomination. With substantial pre-orders, phenomenal ticket sales and high-profile media moments such as Radio 2’s Piano Room session, Alison is now building momentum for the next step in a storied career. Today, she extends that growing interest by sharing the new preview track ‘Filigree’.

Speaking on the meaning of this song Alison says: “Sometimes in life, we are met with the overwhelming urge to leave, losing faith that the next corner reveals a gift of light. It takes the dark to name it. Joy is like a mayfly. It comes for minutes at a time. That’s what makes it remarkable.”

First featured on the 2013 album ‘the minutes’‘Filigree’ is one of the distinctive reworkings presented on the ‘Key’ album. Co-written with Guy Sigsworth (Björk, AURORA), and originally presented as a glacial, unhurried electro-pop song, here it stands apart with its delicate and intimate folk arrangement courtesy of producer Sean McGhee. The recording features 5 x BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards winner Chris Wood on electric guitar, John Garden on piano and Ben Nicholls on double bass.

‘Filigree’‘So Am I’‘Such Small Ale’ and ‘All Cried Out’ collectively provide a window to the nature of the ‘Key’ album. There are hits, fan favourites and deep cuts: all reconstructed by varying degrees in order to create a cohesive set of songs separated by decades in their creation. Alison’s voice – selective in its language and informed by the lessons of experience – consistently provides character, nuance and resonant, emotional depth.

The ‘Key’ album campaign runs parallel to the podcast series ‘40 Moyet Moments’, in which Alison shares a deep dive into specific songs and memorable career moments with host Steve Coats-Dennis. It has become an international hit, landing at #1 on prime podcast charts including Apple Podcasts UK (Music and Music Interviews), Spotify UK (Music), Apple Podcasts Australia (Music Interviews) and Apple Podcasts Ireland (Music).
