Adelaide and South Australia's premier Arts & Entertainment coverage

Leo Hiraga

Leo is a guru behind the lens. He shoots capturing the energy of the night and the detail of every performance...

Role: Photographer
Focus Area: Fringe, Local Bands, Local Artists, Concerts
Most Memorable Adelaide Experience: My first time at Adelaide Fringe, in 2020.

Leo Hiraga was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, and moved to South Australia in 2019.

He has a career background in the ICT sector as a systems administrator, and as a project manager.  Although he loves technology, he has always loved to meet and connect with people, exchange knowledge, and be part of good moments and experiences in their lives, as these also nourish his own.

Meeting so many different people made him see life from different angles and perspectives, and appreciate even more what his city and the world have to offer. He then stopped thinking he couldn’t travel due to time or money constraints and started seeing everything with “tourist’s eyes”. This opened up a whole new world for him, and he became even more passionate about photography.

What are your interests outside of reviewing arts and entertainment?

I love music and being close to nature. I love hiking or enjoying some time at the beach (starting to get used to the cold water)

What’s your favourite thing about living in Adelaide?

Fringe season is one of my favorite things about Adelaide, and I also love the fact that the Sun sets at the beach here (daylight savings make it even better).

If you could only recommend one place to visit in Adelaide, what would it be?

Hard to pick just one… As a nature lover, I’d suggest Morialta or Hallet cove. And in the city I love north terrace, specially the museum and the library.

What’s a favourite book, movie, or song that resonates with you?

Lately, I’m hooked to “Listen to the music” by the Doobie Brothers.

What advice would you give to someone looking to explore arts and entertainment in Adelaide?

Definitely check and follow fringe artists and venues, as they keep doing awesome work after fringe season, keep up with established great venues such as the gov but don’t forget to support local business and artists, and also check out On your Markus website for more advice on what’s happening in the city 😉

What’s your favourite event or venue in Adelaide?

definitely Adelaide Fringe. I also love illuminate Adelaide!
