Pelican Productions’ ‘Twenty’ Music Theatre Camp Marks 20 Years of Nurturing Young Talent in Adelaide

…Featuring Star Alumni Performers

This January, over 300 young performers will light up the stage at Westminster School’s Michael Murray Centre for Performing Arts in a dazzling display of song and dance. Pelican Productions’ 2025 Music Theatre Camp is set to be a spectacular event, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of this beloved program.

The theme for the 2025 camp, ‘Twenty’, marks two decades of nurturing young talent and fostering a love for musical theatre in Adelaide. Since its inception in 2005, Pelican Productions has been a cornerstone for aspiring performers, providing a platform for creativity, growth, and community.

Pelican Productions’ directors, Jen Frith and Kylie Green, have been champions of youth theatre in South Australia for over two decades. Their Music Theatre Camp has been a training ground for many successful performers who have gone on to shine in national and international productions like Six the MusicalBeauty and the BeastChicagoTina the Musical, and Wicked.

Jen Frith, co-director of Pelican Productions, highlights the camp’s profound legacy: “This year’s camp is a vibrant celebration of two decades of creativity, inclusivity, and the joy of performance. Twenty is about honouring our journey, embracing new challenges, and uncovering the extraordinary potential within each young performer. It promises to be an unforgettable experience, showcasing the incredible talent and passion that has defined Pelican Productions for the past 20 years.”

To commemorate this milestone, a flock of Pelican Productions alumni will return to Adelaide to perform on the Pelican stage, including Callum Warrender (The Voice Australia, Pirates of Penzance – In Concert, Ten Tenors), Matthew Prime (TINA the Tina Turner Musical, 9 to 5 the Musical, Bright Star, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jersey Boys), Lewis Shilvock (Elf the Musical, Cinderella, MAMMA MIA! The Musical), Stephanie Cole (The Voice Australia 2020), Joe Meldrum (CHICAGO US National and International Tours, Australia, An American in Paris, West Side Story, A Fine Romance: The Magic of Fred Astaire, The Boy From Oz, La Cage Aux Folles, Tommy, Singin’ in the Rain, Oklahoma, Curtains), Emily Wood (Cinderella, Opera Australia), Emma Kavanagh (The Flower Duet with Mirusia, Pirates of Penzance, Messa da Requiem, The Nightingale)and Jordan Tomljenovic (MAMMA MIA! The Musical, 9 to 5 the Musical, Cry Baby).

Jen Frith shares her excitement about the reunion: “Welcoming our alumni back for this milestone anniversary is incredibly special. These talented individuals began their journeys with us, and seeing them return to celebrate 20 years of Pelican Productions is a testament to the lasting impact of our community. Their successes inspire our current performers and highlight the enduring legacy of creativity and excellence that we strive to uphold.”

The January 2025 production promises an uplifting and heartwarming program featuring songs from beloved musicals such as The Great GatsbyAnnieGuys and DollsThe Lion King& JulietSix the MusicalCharlie and the Chocolate FactoryThe Book of MormonBeetlejuice, and The Greatest Showman.

Reflecting on the legacy of the past 20 years, Kylie Green shares, “Pelican Productions has been a launchpad for countless young performers who have gone on to achieve remarkable success. Our alumni have graced stages both nationally and internationally, and it all began here, in a supportive and nurturing environment. The friendships, skills, and confidence built through our camps are invaluable and long-lasting.”

On the camp’s broader impact, Kylie notes: “Twenty: Music Theatre Camp and Spotlight 2025 is much more than just a performance. It’s a celebration of young performers coming together to share their creativity and talent in a supportive environment. Our camps offer a safe space for learning, experimentation, and collaboration, fostering memories and friendships that endure long after the final curtain falls.
